DESCRIPTION:Join us to ride Te Ara I Whiti on its tenth anniversary.\nTe Ara I Whiti\, the Lightpath was a bold idea to repurpose a disused motorway off-ramp and  turn it into a path for people. Without the early spark and persuasive energy of Bike Auckland’s Max Robitzsch and Barb Cuthbert\, it might still be an unrealised concept. Now this glowing pink ribbon with incredible views is a joyful\, iconic part of our city\, and a cornerstone of the growing network which connects more Aucklanders to where they want to go. \nThe path opened on 3rd December 2015\, after being constructed in a remarkable 9 months from idea to opening. \nFast forward ten years\, and we want to mark this milestone with all of you! Please join us for a celebratory event on the morning of Wednesday 3 December. \nWe are looking for keen riders to help us mark the occasion\nIf you plan on coming along on your bike to ride the path with us for a photo opportunity\, please register your attendance as soon as possible. This allows us to send out any useful info close to the time. \nMeet outside the Electric Bike Team shop by the Canada St end of the path at 8am. We’ll set off soon after. The more the merrier\, so bring a friend and let’s make this big! \nThose on foot\, on scooters\, in wheelchairs\, etc. are all welcome. \nWe look forward to marking the moment with you.

Saturday November 22nd\, Start 9:00am Finish 12:00pm – Start and finish at the Grey Lynn Park Bike Hub\, Dryden Street entrance (next to the pump track)\, Grey Lynn. \nRoute Description. This ride takes you through some beautiful reserves in Grey Lynn and on great new cycle paths in Point Chevalier. It is a relaxed 10 km loop mostly off-road with some short sections on roads. Suitable for any style of bicycle. Recommended minimum rider age is 12 years. SUMMARY:Bicycle Safari: Te Auaunga
DESCRIPTION:This event is by Puketāpapa Active Transport Haven and Bike Hub Mount Roskill. Registration required. \n  \nDetails. Saturday October 25th\, Start 9:00am Finish 12:00pm – Start at Molley Green Reserve close to the source of the Awa\, and finish at Waterview Reserve where the Awa empties into the Waitematā. \nRoute Description. This is a lovely 11km (one way) gentle ride on off road paths that will suit families and new riders. The ride will be fine for all levels of fitness. The suggestion for minimum rider age is 8 years. This route will be suitable for all types of bikes. \nOur guide and storyteller will be Wendy John\, Project Manager of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek established in 2004 to raise the profile of the Awa amongst the wider community\, and to increase recognition of the value and potential of Oakley Creek and its surrounds. We will stop at different points along the path where Wendy will tell us what has/will/might happen in that area. We will spend some time helping volunteers from Friends of Oakley Creek care for plants and trees that have recently been planted alongside the Awa. At the end of the ride\, there will be an opportunity for people to explore the Waterview Heritage Area. There will be an opportunity to make a koha to the mahi of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek. \nCoffee. The plan is to provide an after-ride coffee and light lunch nearby at Daily Bread\, will provide details closer to the time. A number of us will be riding back to Mt Roskill/Puketāpapa after lunch\, so if you plan to drive to the start\, you will have good company for the ride back. \nPlease note: While we have planned this ride very carefully\, responsibility for each person’s well-being is yours to manage. This is particularly the case with children. Each child must be accompanied by and be the responsibility of a caregiver. This ride is planned as a loop\, so if you need to be somewhere else before the suggested ending time\, you would need to plan your route if you were riding back early. SUMMARY:Waiheke: Mountain Bike Sampler
DESCRIPTION:This event is by Cycle Action Waiheke. Registration required. \n  \nAre you mountain bike curious? Do you have a bike but don’t know how to get started trail-riding? Do you look longingly at the bush-clad hills of Onetangi Sports Park and wish you could get amongst it on two wheels? Mountain biking is so much fun – it’s great for physical and mental health\, gets you out into nature\, and is so exciting and exhilarating (NOT scary – unless you want it to be!). Come along to our Mountain Bike Sampler day at Onetangi Sports Park and give it a go with guidance from experienced riders. We’ll start with some basic skills on the field before hitting the Grade 1 Family Track for a couple of laps. Then we can break into two groups – those who want to head up the hill for something more adventurous can do so\, while those happy to keep practicing on the Family Track can stick with that. No one will be left behind or pressured to do anything they are not comfortable with. \nRiders of all ages are welcome. You will need a bike in reasonable condition (preferably with front suspension) and a helmet. And water! \nPlease make sure that you check your and your children’s bikes in advance\, and bring them to Bike Hub for maintenance if necessary. We can’t bring kids out with bikes that don’t work\, and don’t want to disappoint on the day!

Franklin Active Trails and Whakaupoko Landcare have built on this initiative. A forgotten weedy and pesty woolly nightshade forest has been converted into a puriri forest with fun walking and cycle trails\, offering a circuit connection with the Pukekohe 5 Summits and a link to the 6th summit of Puni Reserve. \nCome and check it out. \nRead some further background about the trail here. \n \nA note about getting there from the Auckland City Centre:\nThe start point is just 500m from the Pukekohe Railway Station. SUMMARY:Puketutu Island Safari
DESCRIPTION:Hello friends\, our next ride will be a great opportunity to immerse yourselves in the beauty of the Manukau Harbour. As per the normal instructions\, please be prepared for weather\, it is winter. Unless the weather is so bad there is a health and safety risk\, we will be riding. \nStart/Finish will be at the Bikehub next to the Onehunga Train Station. So all being well\, you will be able to catch a train to and from the event.  \nTiming: We will start riding at 10:00am\, we should be back in Onehunga before midday. \nWhat kind of bike: You do not have to have an eBike for this ride\, it is around a 25km ride\, with few hills. We will be riding on gravel roads along the Watercare Coastal Walkway and the grass walking paths around the harbour edge of the Ambury Regional Park. There is a gravel road around the south side of Puketutu Island that will take us to a lookout point west toward the Manukau Heads. \nRoute: About three quarters of the route will be on off road shared paths. We start by riding across the new walking and cycling bridge\, Ngā Hau Māngere then along the Kiwi Esplanade to Ambury Farm. The route around the edge of the farm can be bumpy in places\, but you will be amazed that you can be out in the peaceful midst of the Manukau Harbour so close to the city. The Watercare Coastal Walkway offers excellent birdwatching\, especially for shorebirds wintering in the Manukau Harbour. Look for South Island pied oystercatchers\, wrybills\, New Zealand dotterels\, and pied stilts. SUMMARY:Maungakiekie Tāmaki & Ōrākei Bicycle Safari
DESCRIPTION:Intro: This ride will take in many of the lovely sites\, parks\, beaches\, and particularly the quality cycling infrastructure the Maungakiekie Tāmaki & Ōrākei Local Board Areas have to offer. \nStart/Finish will be at the Bike Hub Onehunga next to the Train Station\, we will finish at the Britomart Train Station. So all being well\, you will be able to catch a train to and from the event. \nTiming: We will start riding at 9:00am\, we should be at Britomart by around 1:30pm. \nWhat kind of bike: You do not have to have an eBike for this ride\, but it is around a 30km ride\, and we will encounter hills right after lunch. We will be riding on paved surfaces. \nWho should ride: We will be riding for a little under 3 hours\, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. While most of the ride is off road\, the sections we are on road are on busy areas so you will need to be comfortable with this. In saying that\, you will be in a guided group which makes thing easier.  \nRoute: Over three quarters of the route will be on off road shared paths. We start by riding along the edge of the Manukau Harbour from Onehunga to Penrose\, then along the path beside the express way to Sylvia Park. We have a short busy patch through the Sylvia Park Shopping Mall car park before getting onto the beautiful path around the Panmure Basin. There is a short ride on road before joining the wonderful path along the Tamaki River to the beginning of the path along the Tamaki River then up on to the new separated cycle paths along Taniwha St to the Glen Innes Village. We will stop in at the Bike Hub Glen Innes before having morning tea at the Glen Innes Starbucks on Aprirana Ave. Then after having had a rest and refreshments we climb up a cycle path that runs parallel to Felton Mathew Ave to St Johns Rd and the beginning of the ‘Te Ara Ki Uta Ki Tai’ (the path of land and sea) through Pourewa Valley\, over the Eastern rail line and through the Ōrākei Basin. That delivers us via paths along Paratai Drive onto the beautiful Tāmaki Drive path all the way to Britomart Station. \nCoffee: We will have morning tea at the Glen Innes Starbucks on Aprinana Ave. \nPlease register click here.
