SUMMARY:Pt Chev Mystery Bike Hike
DESCRIPTION:Did you know you can ride for miles in most directions from Pt Chev\, almost entirely free from traffic? Join us for the first of what we hope will be many local bike adventures\, exploring off-road connected bike paths in our hood and beyond! \nWe’ll gather in the town square outside the library – then head off\, on an out-and-back ride of ~14km. It’s about half an hour in each direction\, so expect to be on the move for around an hour\, not counting stops to explore. \nOn our return to Pt Chev we’ll hang out at Nomad for a chat. Feel free to stick around! \n• Given the length of this initial ride\, it’s more suitable for adults and teens. Once we’ve tested the concept\, we’re planning future rides more suitable for families with children. (If you do want to ride along this time\, there’s a natural turnaround point that would make for a shorter 5km route.) \n• This ride is entirely off-road and on quiet streets\, with a couple of road crossings. \n• Drop us a line below to let us know you’re coming\, so we can plan ahead. You can also contact us at bike.ptchev@gmail.com \n• Make sure your bike’s in good working order before the day – please check your tires and brakes especially! \n• If we need to reschedule for any reason\, we’ll post an update on the chalkboard in the square opposite the library. \nAlso\, thanks to the Albert-Eden Local Board for their support for Bike Burb activities!

SUMMARY:Mystery Strava-Art Charity Ride
DESCRIPTION:Come create Strava-art with your GPS computer. With a twist: the super-awesome image will only be revealed at the end of the ride! \nJoin the ride here on Strava: https://www.strava.com/clubs/467940/group_events/467494 \nYou may remember Carl Wells and his amazing Strava art from such previous hits as the birthday birthday self-portrait\, and the infamous prostate cancer fundraiser. \nThis year\, Carl wants to do something a bit extra for his favorite charity\, Cool Earth. Environmental destruction and climate change are big and scary problems we need to be doing more to address. Cool Earth helps indigenous communities on the front lines of rainforest destruction earn more from keeping the forest standing than they would otherwise earn from clearing it. Win Win! \nYou can chip in and support the campaign here. \nThe ride is approximately 30km\, and will travel at an easy pace. Carl is hoping for a big group to help create an indelible and impressive image. Questions? Drop Carl a line.

SUMMARY:Bike Te Atatu Group Ride to Cycle-Powered Cinema
DESCRIPTION:Let’s ride together to the EcoWest Festival cycle-powered cinema in Avondale. \nWe’ll meet at Te Atatu Peninsula Library verandah at 5.30pm for a 5.45pm departure. And we’ll pick up any Te Atatu South bicyclists at Te Atatu underpass at 6pm. \nWe’ll ride off the road almost all the way\, via the Northwestern Cycleway and the Waterview path to Avondale. There’s a very small amount of back-street riding once we get to Avondale. \nYou’ll be able to make your own way back in your own time or come back with other riders if you aren’t so confident to do that. \nThere’s heaps going on: live music\, art and performances\, food trucks and bike-powered screenings of locally made short films. See this page for more details\, and the event listing here. \nBYO mug for a free hot chocolate. \nThis ride is suitable for most ages and abilities – the route is about 11.5km one way (fairly flat) and it should take us between 40 minutes and an hour. \n
