SUMMARY:Bike the Eastern Bays Sustainable Garden Trail - Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable gardens by sustainable transport. What could be better? \nBike Eastern Suburbs is excited to be involved with the Eastern Bays Sustainable Gardens Trail. We are organising a group ride to visit several of the gardens. E-bikes and analogue bikes are welcome. \nWe meet at Bionic Bikes (244 Orakei Rd) at 9.30am on Sunday 22nd March. If you want to hire a bike from them\, they open at 9.00 (allow at least 30 minutes to get fitted and sorted). After a briefing\, we will ride a route taking in as many gardens as practical. The route will about 20km and unfortunately there are hills involved. \nIt is a no-drop ride so we will wait for everyone to regroup at regular intervals. We estimate it will take around four hours (depending on how amazing the gardens are). If faster riders want to leave the slower ones and take in a couple more gardens\, then that can be worked out on the day. Finish is at approximately\, after that\, feel free to head home\, explore more gardens on the trail or plan a route to take in the rest of the gardens on Sunday. \nThe route is partly on road\, but we have tried to keep it to the less busy ones and use cycle paths where possible. This is about the experience\, it’s not a race. We will be riding at a slow pace and will stop frequently to make sure everyone stays together and we cross intersections safely. If you do feel unsafe or want to pull out for any reason\, please tell the leader so we don’t look for you.\nWhat if I want to ride fast and see more gardens? No problems\, just tell the leader you are leaving the group so we don’t send out a search party.\nWhat if I love one particular garden and want to spend more time there? DESCRIPTION:Hello friends\, \nWe would like to invite you on the Puhinui Peninsula Safari Ride on Saturday Feb 28th will take us on new cycling infrastructure through Mangere Bridge. You will learn how you can ride all the way to the airport from Onehunga on cycle paths. We will finish up at a lookout in the Puhinui Reserve. At 199 hectares of rural landscape\, Puhinui Reserve occupies the southern portion of the Puhinui Peninsula. It has considerable historic\, conservation and cultural amenity value. The reserve forms part of the extensive Matukuturua volcanic field and is linked with pre-European settlements centred around Wiri Mountain and Matukutura (McLaughlins Mountain). \nStart/Finish will be at the Bike Hub near the Onehunga Train Station. You or your littlies can also have a go on the pump track before we set off. \nOur beginner-friendly group ride will begin with a calm cruise through Grey Lynn’s greenways. We will be riding on a mixture of shared pathways\, protected cycleways\, and quiet streets. You can see the route here. \nWe will be cycling at a social\, easy pace. The 5km route is mostly flat\, and we will have rest stops at the top of any hills\, making sure everyone is ready to go before we set off again. \nOnce we arrive at the beach we’ll park up with the free secure bike valet parking so we can enjoy our beach time worry-free. DESCRIPTION:This ride is quite different from our usual city-based safari routes. Instead of bike paths\, neighbourhood streets\, and urban corners\, we’ll be riding through one of the closest true forest environments to Auckland. The Hunua Ranges offer deep valleys\, native bush\, open river flats\, and peaceful gravel roads with no vehicle traffic. You will not need a mountain bike; the route is mainly light gravel so you might not be comfortable on a racing bike. Don’t worry if you are not used to gravel riding\, we will be going slowly and carefully. The Hunua River Loop is a scenic gravel and bush-edge circuit following the Mangatāwhiri Stream through the heart of the Hunua Ranges. The loop includes flat valley riding\, shaded bush sections\, and gentle climbs with views back across the river. Total distance is approximately 10–12 km\, taking 90–120 minutes at a relaxed safari pace. \nRegistration is required – please review the full details and register on this link.

Start 8:00pm – Finish approx 10:00pm.\nStart and finish at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub\, opposite the Ferry Terminal.\nRoute length: 7 km\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years. \n  \nRoute Description\nThis 7 km Christmas Lights Safari Ride takes you through the most festive parts of central Auckland. We begin at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub opposite the Ferry Terminal (near the Te Komititanga Christmas Tree)\, ride through the Viaduct’s Christmas Wonder Lane\, climb gently toward Freemans Bay\, and arrive at the highlight of the night: Franklin Road — one of New Zealand’s most iconic Christmas light displays. Riders will walk the Franklin Road section while bikes are supervised at the top. We then continue to Ponsonby Central for a hot chocolate or ice cream stop at the Chocolate Factory. From there\, the route heads along Ponsonby Rd\, K Rd\, drops back into the city\, passing through Aotea Square’s Christmas installation\, and finishes with a slow roll down the Queen Street Light Trail. \nSafety & Notes\n\nSome parts of the route use busy roads — parents should consider this before bringing younger children.\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years.\nEnsure your bike has good front and rear lights for night riding.\nReflective or bright clothing is strongly recommended.\nDecorate your bike with Christmas lights for fun and visibility.\nHelmets required by NZ law.\nRide pace will be relaxed with regular regroup points.\nFranklin Road will be walked\, not ridden — bikes will be supervised at the top.\nRide will proceed in light rain; severe weather may postpone for safety.\n\nPlease register by clicking here. Without the early spark and persuasive energy of Bike Auckland’s Max Robitzsch and Barb Cuthbert\, it might still be an unrealised concept. Now this glowing pink ribbon with incredible views is a joyful\, iconic part of our city\, and a cornerstone of the growing network which connects more Aucklanders to where they want to go. \nThe path opened on 3rd December 2015\, after being constructed in a remarkable 9 months from idea to opening. \nFast forward ten years\, and we want to mark this milestone with all of you! Please join us for a celebratory event on the morning of Wednesday 3 December. \nWe are looking for keen riders to help us mark the occasion\nIf you plan on coming along on your bike to ride the path with us for a photo opportunity\, please register your attendance as soon as possible. This is a lovely 11km (one way) gentle ride on off road paths that will suit families and new riders. The ride will be fine for all levels of fitness. The suggestion for minimum rider age is 8 years. This route will be suitable for all types of bikes. \nOur guide and storyteller will be Wendy John\, Project Manager of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek established in 2004 to raise the profile of the Awa amongst the wider community\, and to increase recognition of the value and potential of Oakley Creek and its surrounds. We will stop at different points along the path where Wendy will tell us what has/will/might happen in that area. We will spend some time helping volunteers from Friends of Oakley Creek care for plants and trees that have recently been planted alongside the Awa. At the end of the ride\, there will be an opportunity for people to explore the Waterview Heritage Area. There will be an opportunity to make a koha to the mahi of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek. \nCoffee. The plan is to provide an after-ride coffee and light lunch nearby at Daily Bread\, will provide details closer to the time. A number of us will be riding back to Mt Roskill/Puketāpapa after lunch\, so if you plan to drive to the start\, you will have good company for the ride back. \nPlease note: While we have planned this ride very carefully\, responsibility for each person’s well-being is yours to manage. This is particularly the case with children. Each child must be accompanied by and be the responsibility of a caregiver. This ride is planned as a loop\, so if you need to be somewhere else before the suggested ending time\, you would need to plan your route if you were riding back early. DESCRIPTION:This event is by Cycle Action Waiheke. Registration required. \n  \nAre you mountain bike curious? Do you have a bike but don’t know how to get started trail-riding? Do you look longingly at the bush-clad hills of Onetangi Sports Park and wish you could get amongst it on two wheels? Mountain biking is so much fun – it’s great for physical and mental health\, gets you out into nature\, and is so exciting and exhilarating (NOT scary – unless you want it to be!). Come along to our Mountain Bike Sampler day at Onetangi Sports Park and give it a go with guidance from experienced riders. We’ll start with some basic skills on the field before hitting the Grade 1 Family Track for a couple of laps. Then we can break into two groups – those who want to head up the hill for something more adventurous can do so\, while those happy to keep practicing on the Family Track can stick with that. No one will be left behind or pressured to do anything they are not comfortable with. \nRiders of all ages are welcome. You will need a bike in reasonable condition (preferably with front suspension) and a helmet. And water! \nPlease make sure that you check your and your children’s bikes in advance\, and bring them to Bike Hub for maintenance if necessary. We can’t bring kids out with bikes that don’t work\, and don’t want to disappoint on the day!

DESCRIPTION:This event is by Franklin Active Trails. \nA choice of two simultaneous bike rides along and beyond the freshly opened Te Ara O Puuriri Trail. Routes will be available on the day and via Ride with GPS links. Both options include unsealed trail sections however most is on quiet sealed roads. If you are a big fan of MTB trails you can include an extension of incorporating the Puni MTB circuit through the pines adding a further 5km to the journey. \nWhen: Sunday Oct 12th\, 8.00am \nWhere Start:  Bledisloe Park\, Johns St by playground and soccer clubrooms.  \nWhere Finish: Your Local Coffee Roasters Pukekohe\, Cnr Nelson & Manukau Rd \nOption 1: 1 Summit 11 Km Circuit west to Te Ara O Puuriri\, (Summit Adams Rd South\, Belmont) \nOption 2: 3 Summits 17 – 20 Km circuit. West to Te Ara O Puuriri\, South to Puni Reserve Summit\, Attewell Rd\, east to Pukekohe Hill Summit\, downhill to Local Coffee Roasters. \n \nHealth & Safety\n\nWear high visibility clothing. (We are riding on trails and quieter roads but there are several busy main roads to cross).\nAll children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult\nAll people taking part in this ride do so at their own risk\, will ride independently and will not be supervised or guided.\n\n \nBackground\nTe Ara Puuriri starts at the top of one of the Pukekohe 5 Summits established by Pukekohe Tramping Club as part of their 50th celebrations. Franklin Active Trails and Whakaupoko Landcare have built on this initiative. A forgotten weedy and pesty woolly nightshade forest has been converted into a puriri forest with fun walking and cycle trails\, offering a circuit connection with the Pukekohe 5 Summits and a link to the 6th summit of Puni Reserve. \nCome and check it out. \nRead some further background about the trail here. \n \nA note about getting there from the Auckland City Centre:\nThe start point is just 500m from the Pukekohe Railway Station. There is a train that arrives at Pukekohe at 7.44am. The train starts at down town Auckland Waitemata Stn at 6.30am. Return Trains leave at 20 minute intervals.
