DESCRIPTION:This will be a chilled 2.7km ride for families with small children or grandparents with grandchildren. No minimum rider age\, even balance bikes will be fine. \nOn the Moonlight Ride last year we had lots of toddlers hooning it on their balance bikes. Our destination will be the playground at Owairaka Park. We will have morning tea there\, bring your favourite snacks and drinks. We will stop on the way back at the Pump Track in Underwood Park. There is another playground in that park as well. \nWe’ll ride at a comfortable pace to suit all riders\, with regular regroup points. \nIf you haven’t been along this section of the Awa\, go here to see the background to its story.

We are organising a group ride to visit several of the gardens. E-bikes and analogue bikes are welcome. \nWe meet at Bionic Bikes (244 Orakei Rd) at 9.30am on Sunday 22nd March. If you want to hire a bike from them\, they open at 9.00 (allow at least 30 minutes to get fitted and sorted). After a briefing\, we will ride a route taking in as many gardens as practical. The route will about 20km and unfortunately there are hills involved. \nIt is a no-drop ride so we will wait for everyone to regroup at regular intervals. We estimate it will take around four hours (depending on how amazing the gardens are). If faster riders want to leave the slower ones and take in a couple more gardens\, then that can be worked out on the day. Finish is at approximately\, after that\, feel free to head home\, explore more gardens on the trail or plan a route to take in the rest of the gardens on Sunday. \nThe route is partly on road\, but we have tried to keep it to the less busy ones and use cycle paths where possible. DESCRIPTION:Hello friends\, \nWe would like to invite you on the Puhinui Peninsula Safari Ride on Saturday Feb 28th will take us on new cycling infrastructure through Mangere Bridge. You will learn how you can ride all the way to the airport from Onehunga on cycle paths. We will finish up at a lookout in the Puhinui Reserve. At 199 hectares of rural landscape\, Puhinui Reserve occupies the southern portion of the Puhinui Peninsula. It has considerable historic\, conservation and cultural amenity value. The reserve forms part of the extensive Matukuturua volcanic field and is linked with pre-European settlements centred around Wiri Mountain and Matukutura (McLaughlins Mountain). \nStart/Finish will be at the Bike Hub near the Onehunga Train Station. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Pride in Puketāpapa with a relaxed\, welcoming bike meet-up and ride into the city. \nFrom 5.30pm\, gather at Mt Roskill Bike Hub for: quick bike safety checks\, bike decorating\, snacks and refreshments\, music and good vibes\nYou’re welcome to come along even if you’re not riding – hang out\, decorate bikes and cheer riders on. \nThe ride:\nFrom 7pm\, registered bike riders will begin a short 5km ride along the off-road cycle path to Avondale Train Station\, then catch trains into the city.\nAll riders will regroup at Queens Wharf in time to join the main Bike Pals Pride Rave Ride. \nWho can join:\n– Everyone is welcome to join the gathering\n– If you wish to participate in the bike + train ride downtown\, you must pre-register as a bike rider here\n– Bike riders of all ages\, identities and bodies are welcome\, provided they are confident riding and able to balance safely\n– Helmets are essential \nBring your bike and let’s travel together to the Pride Rave! \nThis event is supported by Puketāpapa Local Board and hosted by Puketāpapa Climate Action & Bike Hub Mt Roskill.

The trains will be running (I checked)\, so jump on a train to Parnell or Grafton and cycle up from there. \nSafety – we will ride as a group with a group leader and a tail end Charlie. DESCRIPTION:Explore Māngere Bridge and the wider neighbourhood by bike with your whānau \nJoin Bike Māngere Bridge on our Whānau Rides. A series of four easy\, whānau-friendly rides\, starting on Sunday\, 1 February. Each ride is about enjoying time together\, building confidence on bikes\, and discovering safe\, family-friendly ways to get around Māngere Bridge by bike. \nWe’ll ride at a relaxed pace\, with plenty of time to look around\, have fun\, and learn practical tips for cycling with kids. This includes route choice\, crossing points\, riding etiquette\, and sharing paths with others. These rides are perfect for families\, kids\, beginners\, and anyone getting back on a bike. \nEveryone is welcome\, and nobody gets left behind. The journey is the fun part. At the end of each ride\, we’ll enjoy free refreshments and a relaxed chance to ask bike-related questions or get to know your local cycling neighbours. \nPlease bring your own bike and helmet (safety first). E-bikes are welcome\, but the pace will suit regular bikes. SUMMARY:Hunua Ranges Regional Park River Loop Safari Ride
DESCRIPTION:This ride is quite different from our usual city-based safari routes. Instead of bike paths\, neighbourhood streets\, and urban corners\, we’ll be riding through one of the closest true forest environments to Auckland. The Hunua Ranges offer deep valleys\, native bush\, open river flats\, and peaceful gravel roads with no vehicle traffic. You will not need a mountain bike; the route is mainly light gravel so you might not be comfortable on a racing bike. Don’t worry if you are not used to gravel riding\, we will be going slowly and carefully. The Hunua River Loop is a scenic gravel and bush-edge circuit following the Mangatāwhiri Stream through the heart of the Hunua Ranges. The loop includes flat valley riding\, shaded bush sections\, and gentle climbs with views back across the river. Total distance is approximately 10–12 km\, taking 90–120 minutes at a relaxed safari pace. \nRegistration is required – please review the full details and register on this link.

SUMMARY:Christmas Lights Safari Ride
DESCRIPTION:This event is by Puketāpapa Active Transport Haven. Registration required. \nDetails\nDate: Saturday 20 December. Start 8:00pm – Finish approx 10:00pm.\nStart and finish at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub\, opposite the Ferry Terminal.\nRoute length: 7 km\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years. \n  \nRoute Description\nThis 7 km Christmas Lights Safari Ride takes you through the most festive parts of central Auckland. We begin at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub opposite the Ferry Terminal (near the Te Komititanga Christmas Tree)\, ride through the Viaduct’s Christmas Wonder Lane\, climb gently toward Freemans Bay\, and arrive at the highlight of the night: Franklin Road — one of New Zealand’s most iconic Christmas light displays. Riders will walk the Franklin Road section while bikes are supervised at the top. We then continue to Ponsonby Central for a hot chocolate or ice cream stop at the Chocolate Factory. From there\, the route heads along Ponsonby Rd\, K Rd\, drops back into the city\, passing through Aotea Square’s Christmas installation\, and finishes with a slow roll down the Queen Street Light Trail. \nSafety & Notes\n\nSome parts of the route use busy roads — parents should consider this before bringing younger children.\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years.\nEnsure your bike has good front and rear lights for night riding.\nReflective or bright clothing is strongly recommended.\nDecorate your bike with Christmas lights for fun and visibility.\nHelmets required by NZ law.\nRide pace will be relaxed with regular regroup points.\nFranklin Road will be walked\, not ridden — bikes will be supervised at the top.\nRide will proceed in light rain; severe weather may postpone for safety.\n\nPlease register by clicking here. Note for the 1st time we will be restricting numbers to 15 so as to ensure everyone has a good time in the downtown environment. If more register we will hold a 2nd ride on Sunday 21st.
