SUMMARY:Big Bike-Off Fundraising Challenge - Bike Auckland
DESCRIPTION:We’re running a crowd funding campaign so that we can create the biggest ever celebration of bikes in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland! Join us in promoting cycling as a sustainable\, joyful and inclusive transport mode to more Aucklanders than ever. \nDonate now! \nBiketober is a community-powered festival on wheels held every October. A bigger\, bolder and better-than-ever Biketober will change the conversation around cycling\, bring local decision-makers on board\, and get more people than ever giving cycling for transport a whirl. \nWe know that Biketober has the power to change hearts and minds. But as a small team\, we are constantly stretching our capacity. We need funds to take Biketober to the next level\, creating even more of an impact across our region. \nYour donation will help Bike Auckland organise and promote the festival. With your help\, we’ll have an even wider range of fabulous events. And masses of people right across the region will see joyful bike events in action. \nDonate now\, or run a fundraiser! You could ask for sponsorship for your cycling goal\, or run an event like a sausage sizzle or bake sale to raise money. You could even run a Bike Wash. Get your friends involved too! More ideas for other ways to help are included here. \nFour teams\, North & Waiheke\, South\, West\, and Central & East Auckland\, are competing to raise the most funds for Biketober for each area of Auckland. The area which raises the most money will see their name in lights as hosts of the launch of Biketober 2025! Funds raised in your area will support Biketober activations in your area. \nTogether\, we’ll demonstrate just how important it is to support cycling – and safe cycling infrastructure. \nhttps://givealittle.co.nz/event/biggest-bike-celebration-ever

SUMMARY:Counties Cycle Classic
DESCRIPTION:The Counties Cycle Classic returns this year on October 13\, at Pukekohe Park Raceway. Once again\, we’ll be using the world famous V8 track to start and finish the races. \nFor more information and to register to ride\, visit: http://countiescycleclassic.co.nz/ \nThe Counties Cycle Classic caters for all levels: serious riders can take on the 92km challenge\, there’s a 52km course for those looking for a bit of a challenge\, and the shorter 42km course for casual riders. \nAs well as the traditional rides\, the Classic has a special e-bike section where riders are challenged to get as close as they can to a pre-set time; and rides for children around the V8 track – definitely an experience to share at school talks. \nAbout the Counties Cycle Classic \nFast becoming a fixture on the cycling calendar\, the event organized by the Rotary Club of Pukekohe Inc. is shaping up to be even bigger and better this year. Organiser Graham Russell says the Classic has again been well supported by sponsorship from local businesses and a grant from the Franklin Local board of Auckland Council. As a Rotary initiative\, every dollar raised goes to charity and youth sports. \nDay and Time \nThis year’s Counties Cycle Classic will be held on Sunday 13 October 2019\, just a couple of weeks ahead of the K2 on the Coromandel and about six weeks before the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge\, which is also a Rotary initiative. So it’s a perfect warm-up opportunity to start getting yourself in shape. \nDetails \nDistances are the same as last year: 42km\, 52km\, 97km plus a time trial for electric bikes on the 52km course. \nThe ride is on roads with very little traffic and great scenery\, and there’s also the opportunity for children to ride around the V8 track whilst the cycle races are out on the road\, so all in all it’s a great family day out. \nFor timing of the races\, and details of entry fees\, visit the Counties Cycle Classic website. \nWhat participants said about last year’s Counties Cycle Classic \n\nIt was really enjoyable and well managed. (Our first time in Pukekohe)\nCongratulations with organizing a great cycle race.\nwhat a great event I thought yesterday was. We will encourage more of the local club members to come along next year.\nthank you for putting on such a well organized race. We enjoyed being a sponsor and the boys had a great ride.\nI really enjoyed the event.Just the second cycle event I have done.  I entered the 97km event and enjoyed the route and felt safe with the traffic management you had in place.  The road chosen had plenty of shoulder space where there was traffic.\nThanks for a well run event in the weekend.\nThanks for a great event. It was my first race in New Zealand and I thoroughly enjoyed it .  Please thank all the marshals along the route for guiding us and stopping the traffic to allow us to keep going.  I felt very safe along the whole ride and will definitely ride again next year.\nGreat cycling event\, flawlessly organized.\nFantastic organisation this year!

SUMMARY:Big Cock Ride for Blue September
DESCRIPTION:When people hear Carl Wells creates Strava Art (i.e. by riding a route that draws a picture on the Strava map)\, a fairly common reaction is ‘haha\, you should draw a giant penis’. LOL. \nOne such conversation was overheard by Carl’s friend Tim\, a fellow musician in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. In a stroke (or two) of brilliance\, he commissioned Carl on the spot to design what they’re calling the Big Cock Ride. \nTim survived a prostate cancer scare a few years back\, and ever since he’s been putting on an excellent annual charity in support of Blue September. His annual event at the Red Rabbit Coffee Co is awesome: a live Blues Brothers band\, delicious food and beer\, with 100% of funds collected going to the charity. And this year – for the first time – it’ll be preceded by the Big Cock Ride. \nJoin the first annual Schlong-a-thon! Grab your bicycle and GPS\, and join Carl in drawing the biggest cock’n’balls ever to disgrace the city of Auckland – and all in a good cause. Come together to be part of something huge! \nWhere\, when and how to join in \nAny rider ambitious enough to go the full length should be ready to ride from the Red Rabbit at 1pm on Saturday 29 September 2018.  You’ll arrive back at the cafe by around 3pm\, just as the band and festivities begin. \nTo sign up and get involved\, join the event pages on Strava and Facebook.  \nThe ride is about 30k and is recommended as suiting riders who use clip-in pedals and are comfortable riding in traffic. \nEven if you can’t make it on the day\, please consider supporting Blue September by donating to support this impressive effort! \nQuestions? Contact Carl. \nNote from Carl: for artistic purposes\, the actual route will differ very slightly from image above\, as there is no straight line route through Grey Lynn. But\, when using a GPS computer\, if you pause it mid-ride and resume at a different location\, the software (on Strava) draws a straight line between the two points. Hence the two straight lines in the ‘art’.  Between marking those points\, we conveniently ride up the Nelson St protected bike lane\, Lightpath\, and the Northwestern Cycleway. On the return route\, after completing the ‘nuts’\, we come back on the NW cycleway again\, and down the Grafton Gully. Tricks of the trade!
