DESCRIPTION:EcoMatters is thrilled to host the 5th Street Art Bike Challenge this year\, where Aucklanders get out and about by bike to find street art and go in to win $1000 worth of prizes. \nThe Challenge is held in April to make the most of end-of-summer cycling weather\, as well as Easter and the school holidays. \nAll you do is cycle to one of the city’s colourful street art spots; take a pic of you and your bike\, then just load it up online and press submit to enter. Then pedal on to the next arty spot or take a break and do more another day. \nEvery pic you submit puts you in the draw to win end-of-challenge prizes plus weekly spot prizes all around Tāmaki Makaurau\, and you can enter as many times as you like. SUMMARY:Bike Ride and Picnic at Pt Erin
DESCRIPTION:Weather dependent! Check the Facebook event page on the day if in doubt.\n \n\n \nMeet at Sunhill Garden Centre at 11.00 and head down the shared path to Tamaki Drive. We will stop at Orakei Rd (11.15) and at Tamaki Drive (11.25) for people to join us. Ride the cycleway to the Viaduct and a short ride on the road to get us to the St Mary’s Bay path. We will stop at the end for a picnic lunch and retrace our wheel tracks home (with maybe a little diversion on the way)!\nBring picnic food\, drinks\, and a blanket or chair.\nThis is a casual\, slow\, no-drop ride for anyone who is able to confidently ride a 20km round trip. Kids welcome\, but you must be confident of their ability to ride the distance and ride safely. We will stop and regroup along the way.\n \nCaution: There will be tram tracks. Always cross them at an angle.

DESCRIPTION:Do you want to explore Grey Lynn and further afield using the cycleways? There are many safe new cycle ways to get out west from Grey Lynn/Ponsonby.\n \nCome join a fun social group ride\, meet some other local cyclists to see how the routes link up\, and can take you near and far by bike.\n \nYou will meet other local cyclists at the Bike Hub in Grey Lynn Park (next to the pump track).\n \nWe will ride cycle ways and quiet roads through Pt Chev and Waterview\, Auckland to Bike Hub New Lynn for a coffee break (refreshments provided)\, before heading back.\n \nSuitable for push bikes and e bikes. Some small slopes but mainly flat (approx 2 hrs total of cycling if on a push bike).\n \nRide at your own pace or join a group led by trained guides who will advise on any tricky crossings\, safe cycling techniques etc.\n \nDetails:Bike Hub: Grey Lynn will be open for our ride from 9am for free bike checks and quick fixes before we set off.Meet at Bike Hub Grey Lynn by 10am for a briefing; ride departs at 10.15am; return to Grey Lynn park by 1pm latest.\nIf you want to ride on the guided ride\, AT require you to register.https://coursesandevents.at.govt.nz/guided-ride-1000060425/register\nIf you would rather collect a map and head off to Bike Hub and meet for refreshments. DESCRIPTION:Daylight saving is over. Time to dig out your bike lights and make sure you are seen.Dress up your bike and yourself and come for a ride along the shared path from Mission Bay to St Heliers and back.Meet 6.30pm at the clock tower. To make it a bit longer\, we will start by riding towards the Tamaki Yacht Club and turning around in the car park there.Afterwards we can either have a bite in Mission Bay or head into town.We want it to be a bike party\, showing people that you don’t have to take your car if you’re going out on a Saturday evening. It’s also a good chance to see what people are using to make themselves more visible at night and talk to others about their lighting.\nThe essentials are:\nYou need a bike and the attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself. Lights are essential. Everything else is optional.\nOptional stuff:\nA Bluetooth speaker and your favourite tunesA bike lit up like a Christmas treeAn outrageous costume\nHow it works:\nWe meet up at the start location and get organised and wait for any stragglers.Hop on our bikes and follow the leader towards town\, turn around at the Tamaki Yacht Club then head to St Heliers and ride back to the start. From there\, those with kids can head home and the rest of us do what we feel like.\n \nFAQ\nWhat does it cost? Zip\, zilch\, nada\, nothing.How long will it take? We will be riding slowly but the aim is to be back at the start by 8.00 pm at the latest.Can I leave any time? Yes\, head home whenever you feel like it.Is anything happening after? Nothing is organised\, but you can meet up with others going your way and carry on the party all the way home.Can I bring friends? Of course\, everyone is welcome.Can I bring my E-bike? Of course E-bikes are welcome.What’s the minimum age? There’s no minimum age but kids should be able confidently ride a bike the full distance. You can carry younger ones on a bike seat. You are responsible for your children\, this is not a drop and leave event.Will it be safe? Experienced riders will be at the front and back. The entire trail is off road and on sealed paths. Only two driveways to cross. There will be a small first aid kit available and also someone who can do basic bike repairs.Who is organising this and who is paying for it? The event is organised by a group of volunteers from Bike Eastern Suburbs\, and Bike East Auckland.What if it rains? DESCRIPTION:Intro: This ride will take in many of the lovely sites\, parks\, beaches\, and particularly the quality cycling infrastructure the Maungakiekie Tāmaki & Ōrākei Local Board Areas have to offer. \nStart/Finish will be at the Bike Hub Onehunga next to the Train Station\, we will finish at the Britomart Train Station. So all being well\, you will be able to catch a train to and from the event. \nTiming: We will start riding at 9:00am\, we should be at Britomart by around 1:30pm. \nWhat kind of bike: You do not have to have an eBike for this ride\, but it is around a 30km ride\, and we will encounter hills right after lunch. We will be riding on paved surfaces. \nWho should ride: We will be riding for a little under 3 hours\, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. While most of the ride is off road\, the sections we are on road are on busy areas so you will need to be comfortable with this. In saying that\, you will be in a guided group which makes thing easier.  \nRoute: Over three quarters of the route will be on off road shared paths. We start by riding along the edge of the Manukau Harbour from Onehunga to Penrose\, then along the path beside the express way to Sylvia Park. We have a short busy patch through the Sylvia Park Shopping Mall car park before getting onto the beautiful path around the Panmure Basin. There is a short ride on road before joining the wonderful path along the Tamaki River to the beginning of the path along the Tamaki River then up on to the new separated cycle paths along Taniwha St to the Glen Innes Village. We will stop in at the Bike Hub Glen Innes before having morning tea at the Glen Innes Starbucks on Aprirana Ave. Then after having had a rest and refreshments we climb up a cycle path that runs parallel to Felton Mathew Ave to St Johns Rd and the beginning of the ‘Te Ara Ki Uta Ki Tai’ (the path of land and sea) through Pourewa Valley\, over the Eastern rail line and through the Ōrākei Basin. That delivers us via paths along Paratai Drive onto the beautiful Tāmaki Drive path all the way to Britomart Station. \nCoffee: We will have morning tea at the Glen Innes Starbucks on Aprinana Ave. \nPlease register click here. DESCRIPTION:Hello friends\, our next ride will be a great opportunity to immerse yourselves in the beauty of the Manukau Harbour. As per the normal instructions\, please be prepared for weather\, it is winter. Unless the weather is so bad there is a health and safety risk\, we will be riding. \nStart/Finish will be at the Bikehub next to the Onehunga Train Station. So all being well\, you will be able to catch a train to and from the event.  \nTiming: We will start riding at 10:00am\, we should be back in Onehunga before midday. \nWhat kind of bike: You do not have to have an eBike for this ride\, it is around a 25km ride\, with few hills. We will be riding on gravel roads along the Watercare Coastal Walkway and the grass walking paths around the harbour edge of the Ambury Regional Park. There is a gravel road around the south side of Puketutu Island that will take us to a lookout point west toward the Manukau Heads. \nRoute: About three quarters of the route will be on off road shared paths. We start by riding across the new walking and cycling bridge\, Ngā Hau Māngere then along the Kiwi Esplanade to Ambury Farm. The route around the edge of the farm can be bumpy in places\, but you will be amazed that you can be out in the peaceful midst of the Manukau Harbour so close to the city. The Watercare Coastal Walkway offers excellent birdwatching\, especially for shorebirds wintering in the Manukau Harbour. And you’re invited to join Bike Eastern Suburbs in celebration. \nWhen: 8 June\, 9am to join the usual working bee\, 10.30am for cake and celebration!\nWhere: Meet at the Sunhill Garden Centre Car park \n  \nCome and join our team of enthusiastic volunteers and spend a couple of hours helping make one of our great cycle paths for everyone to enjoy. We will be working on the path heading towards Glen Innes. Mostly weeding and pruning but we may also have some plants to put in.  \nBring your own gloves\, water\, sunscreen and a keep cup if you want to stay for a coffee.
