SUMMARY:Bike Champions' Forum; Ōtāhuhu edition
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Bike Champions Forum in Ōtāhuhu\, where we are delighted to bring together everyone who is interested in riding a bike – for transport or otherwise. Our vision is for streets that are safer for the whole community so that anyone can choose to ride a bike\, and whānau (family) and tamariki (children) have greater wellbeing. \nWhether you are an experienced cyclist\, a beginner\, or yet to get on a bike\, Bike Auckland invites everyone to share their vision for how we can empower more people to choose to cycle and advocate for safer streets across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. \nIf you come by bike there will be bike parking available at the carpark behind the community centre. To ensure that your bike is safe and ready to ride\, a bike mechanic will also be present to perform basic safety checks. This service is free of charge\, so don’t miss this opportunity! \nPlease feel free to bring your whānau along; there will be lots of kai (food) to share. We look forward to seeing you there! \nArrive at 5.30om for a 6pm start. \nThis is a free event\, but if you can\, please get a ticket here\, so that we can keep track of how many people are coming 😊

SUMMARY:Bike Hub Mount Roskill Blind Zone Workshop with Share The Road
DESCRIPTION:Get your hands behind a big rig to spot blindzones in this workshop to build rider confidence in sharing the road with trucks\, buses and large vehicles. \nOnce you have done this workshop you will remember:\nwhere to place yourself and your bike (or vehicle) so a truck driver can see you and that it is better to overtake a truck on the right \nyou will know: \n\nthat trucks may move straight forward from a stop before turning\, to clear a corner.\nthat heavy vehicles’ bodies will swing wide of their wheel tracks\nthat heavy vehicles’ rear axles may turn up to 2m ‘tighter’ than front axles\n\n“It’s a total eye opener! Unless you have sat in the driver’s seat of a large truck you have no idea just how little you can see from up there. All people who ride on the road should do a Share the Road Blindzone Workshop.” — Andy McClune Takapuna Grammar School Cycling Club President \nContact Kelvin (kelvinsharetheroad@gmail.com)

Already cycling\, commuting and/or want to meet like minded people? \nCome join Louise Tu’u\, a Samoan recreational cyclist and director of We Should Practice\, who knows how much fun it is to ride on a bike and wants to share her love and enthusiasm so that other ethnic women can ride push or e-bikes. \nWe have a line-up of amazing guest speakers\, who we will reveal closer to the time. They are all womxn of colour and understand the unique opportunities and challenges that we face when cycling. \nNote: We use the word womxn to avoid the suggestion of sexism perceived in the spelling sequences m-a-n and m-e-n\, and to be inclusive of trans women and nonbinary people.\nOtahuhu Recreational Sports Society is just off the beautiful shared walking and cycle path of Station Road\, so we encourage you to cycle on your bike. Enjoy this relaxed and organised gathering to meet and connect with other riders. Light refreshments will be available. There is limited car parking\, as there is a busy tournament for the club at the same time. \nIf you don’t cycle or don’t know how\, please come. We would love to meet\, connect and motivate you to find out where you can develop bike skills in your community and access/hire/buy a bike. \nIf you don’t have a bike and would like one\, please grab a ticket be in the draw to win one secondhand and serviced push bike for FREE\, which we will give away at our gathering. \nBonus: All participants for the draw must have a functioning bike helmet\, lock and lights on the day in order to win. Otherwise\, there will be a redraw. We want the winner to use their bike safely straight away! \nNB: If you are not a womxn of colour and want to support in allyship\, please consider donating a koha here: \nhttps://ko-fi.com/weshouldpractice

SUMMARY:Transporting us to a cooler future
DESCRIPTION:Register for this event through the Auckland Climate Festival website. \nIt is 2050 and Auckland’s population is around 2.5 million people. A rapid and complete transformation of the transport and land-use planning system means the way people\, goods and services move around Auckland today is very different from how it was done 27 years ago. \nWe do not need to use our cars as much because there are alternative ways to get around. These are easy and affordable\, so we walk\, cycle and take public transport more. \nWhen we do need to use a vehicle\, they are cleaner and more fuel efficient than what we had in 2023 and they are powered by renewable electricity. \nWe travel together with other people more often to reduce the number of individual vehicle trips taken. \nSome trips are shorter than they were 27 years ago\, and there are now more options for people to work online. \nWe have safer streets that promote independent travel for all ages and abilities and there are better health outcomes through increased levels of physical activity\, improved air quality  and reduced noise pollution. \nAt this Auckland Conversations we will explore the cooler transport future for Auckland: Why we have ended up with the transport system of today\, what can be done to enable a cooler transport system for the future\, and importantly how to make the changes needed to get us there. \nOur Speakers: \nTiffany Robinson Senior Transport Planner\, ARUP New Zealand. \nTim Adriaansen Senior Transport Advisor\, Auckland Council. \nFrith Walker Head of Placemaking\, Eke Panuku. \nDr Timothy Welch Co-Director\, Future Cities Research Hub. \nDean Kimpton Chief Executive\, Auckland Transport. \nArriving by bike? Roll right up to the gate for free VIP parking.\nEnjoy free secure bike parking\, so that you can enjoy the event worry-free. Thank you for easing congestion\, reducing emissions and freeing up space in our city! Bike Auckland will be there to help register your bike to 529 Garage\, an anti-theft and bike recovery database. \nDoors open 5pm
