DESCRIPTION:This event is by Puketāpapa Active Transport Haven. Registration required. \nDetails\nDate: Saturday 20 December. Start 8:00pm – Finish approx 10:00pm.\nStart and finish at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub\, opposite the Ferry Terminal.\nRoute length: 7 km\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years. \n  \nRoute Description\nThis 7 km Christmas Lights Safari Ride takes you through the most festive parts of central Auckland. We begin at the Queens Wharf Bike Hub opposite the Ferry Terminal (near the Te Komititanga Christmas Tree)\, ride through the Viaduct’s Christmas Wonder Lane\, climb gently toward Freemans Bay\, and arrive at the highlight of the night: Franklin Road — one of New Zealand’s most iconic Christmas light displays. Riders will walk the Franklin Road section while bikes are supervised at the top. We then continue to Ponsonby Central for a hot chocolate or ice cream stop at the Chocolate Factory. From there\, the route heads along Ponsonby Rd\, K Rd\, drops back into the city\, passing through Aotea Square’s Christmas installation\, and finishes with a slow roll down the Queen Street Light Trail. \nSafety & Notes\n\nSome parts of the route use busy roads — parents should consider this before bringing younger children.\nRecommended minimum rider age: 12 years.\nEnsure your bike has good front and rear lights for night riding.\nReflective or bright clothing is strongly recommended.\nDecorate your bike with Christmas lights for fun and visibility.\nHelmets required by NZ law.\nRide pace will be relaxed with regular regroup points.\nFranklin Road will be walked\, not ridden — bikes will be supervised at the top.\nRide will proceed in light rain; severe weather may postpone for safety.\n\nPlease register by clicking here. Note for the 1st time we will be restricting numbers to 15 so as to ensure everyone has a good time in the downtown environment. If more register we will hold a 2nd ride on Sunday 21st. This ride takes you through some beautiful reserves in Grey Lynn and on great new cycle paths in Point Chevalier. It is a relaxed 10 km loop mostly off-road with some short sections on roads. Suitable for any style of bicycle. Recommended minimum rider age is 12 years. We’ll ride at a comfortable pace to suit riders on non-electric bikes\, with regular regroup points. \nRoute Highlights & Stops \n\n\nHakanoa Reserve and Wetland – boardwalk and native planting. \n\n\nCox’s Bay Esplanade and Cox’s Bay Reserve – harbour views and tidal inlets. \n\n\nNew protected cycle paths on Meola Road and Point Chevalier Road. \n\n\nWestern Springs Park – lakeside birdlife. \n\n\nGreat North Road – near‑complete bike paths; we will take extra care through the work areas. \n\n\nReturn via Dryden Street entrance into Grey Lynn Park and the Bike Hub. \n\n\nSafety & Notes \n\n\nShort on‑road sections require rider confidence in light traffic; we will help you manage intersections. \n\n\nPlease bring water\, sunscreen\, and a rain layer. Saturday October 25th\, Start 9:00am Finish 12:00pm – Start at Molley Green Reserve close to the source of the Awa\, and finish at Waterview Reserve where the Awa empties into the Waitematā. \nRoute Description. This is a lovely 11km (one way) gentle ride on off road paths that will suit families and new riders. The ride will be fine for all levels of fitness. The suggestion for minimum rider age is 8 years. This route will be suitable for all types of bikes. \nOur guide and storyteller will be Wendy John\, Project Manager of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek established in 2004 to raise the profile of the Awa amongst the wider community\, and to increase recognition of the value and potential of Oakley Creek and its surrounds. We will stop at different points along the path where Wendy will tell us what has/will/might happen in that area. We will spend some time helping volunteers from Friends of Oakley Creek care for plants and trees that have recently been planted alongside the Awa. At the end of the ride\, there will be an opportunity for people to explore the Waterview Heritage Area. There will be an opportunity to make a koha to the mahi of Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga – Friends of Oakley Creek. \nCoffee. The plan is to provide an after-ride coffee and light lunch nearby at Daily Bread\, will provide details closer to the time. A number of us will be riding back to Mt Roskill/Puketāpapa after lunch\, so if you plan to drive to the start\, you will have good company for the ride back. \nPlease note: While we have planned this ride very carefully\, responsibility for each person’s well-being is yours to manage. This is particularly the case with children. Each child must be accompanied by and be the responsibility of a caregiver. This ride is planned as a loop\, so if you need to be somewhere else before the suggested ending time\, you would need to plan your route if you were riding back early. This is a fun\, free community event for riders of all ages and abilities — no experience necessary! \nWhat’s happening on the day:  \n\nRide the track with a club member\nDemo races to watch and cheer on\nLolly scramble & treasure hunt for the kids\nCanteen with hot food and cold drinks available to purchase\n\n  \nWhat to bring:  \n\nYour own bike (balance\, BMX or mountain bike)\nFull-face helmet\nLong trousers\, long sleeves\, gloves and closed-toe shoes for safety\n\n  \nA limited number of hire bikes\, helmets and gloves are available to borrow. \nOur club is based on Attewell Road in Puni and is a family-friendly community with members from across Franklin\, ranging in age from 2 to 50+.

DESCRIPTION:This event is by Got To Get Out. \n  \nGot to learn bicycle maintanence\, or get into bike refurbishment? \nBiketober is the perfect month to learn more about bikes! \n** Also if you have a bike to donate\, this would be a great day to rehome it to a good cause!** \nSocial enterprise Got To Get Out is hosting a Workshop open day / bike maintanence lessson on Sunday 19th October at the Got To Get Out Workshop. \n10am-1pm\, bring a snack! \nOur workshop is located in the Wairau Zero Waste Hub\, 5/9 Porana Road\, Glenfield Auckland. \nGTGO founder Robert Bruce and volunteer bike mechanics will demonstrate and involve you with how we take a ‘discarded unwanted bike’ and turn it into a working\, safe\, reliable bike – ready to ride for summer. \nAt this session\, starting 10am sharp\, we will have a variety of bikes that are in need of full service: \nYou can get involved with: \n\ncleaning the bike\,\nassessing condition\,\ndegreasing\, lubing\,\nremoving chains\,\nchanging out cables\nreplacing brake pads\ntest riding\, if we are lucky!\n\nAt the end of this session you should have learned a great deal about how to look after your own bike\, a do basic repairs\, or maybe you want to get involved more often. \nIf you want to join us as a regular part of our volunteer team\, this is a great time to get to know us too! \n** If you have a bike to donate\, this would be a great day for it\, contact workshop@gottogetout.com to discuss this ** \nBring \n\ndirty clothes\nsunscreen\, hat (we work outside)\nwater and snack\n\nMessage us here\, or email workshop@gottogetout.com if any questions. \n

SUMMARY:Waiheke: Mountain Bike Sampler
DESCRIPTION:This event is by Cycle Action Waiheke. Registration required. \n  \nAre you mountain bike curious? Do you have a bike but don’t know how to get started trail-riding? Do you look longingly at the bush-clad hills of Onetangi Sports Park and wish you could get amongst it on two wheels? Mountain biking is so much fun – it’s great for physical and mental health\, gets you out into nature\, and is so exciting and exhilarating (NOT scary – unless you want it to be!). Come along to our Mountain Bike Sampler day at Onetangi Sports Park and give it a go with guidance from experienced riders. We’ll start with some basic skills on the field before hitting the Grade 1 Family Track for a couple of laps. Then we can break into two groups – those who want to head up the hill for something more adventurous can do so\, while those happy to keep practicing on the Family Track can stick with that. No one will be left behind or pressured to do anything they are not comfortable with. \nRiders of all ages are welcome. You will need a bike in reasonable condition (preferably with front suspension) and a helmet. And water! \nPlease make sure that you check your and your children’s bikes in advance\, and bring them to Bike Hub for maintenance if necessary. We can’t bring kids out with bikes that don’t work\, and don’t want to disappoint on the day!

SUMMARY:Fish Bike Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Event by Bike Eastern Suburbs. RSVP required as numbers are strictly limited! \n  \nCome and turn your bike into a fish! \nThis fun\, free three-hour workshop you will cut out\, assemble\, fit and decorate a cardboard fish head for your bike. We may not have time for everything to dry\, but you will have something you can take home. \nMade from recycled cardboard and foam\, the heads are custom made for each bike and can be quickly fitted and removed. \nThe workshop is at Sunhill Garden Centre Markets\, St Johns Rd from 9.00 to 12.00. \nWe will be using sharp knives and very sticky glue so it’s a workshop for bigger kids and adults (12+). Smaller kids can come but need to be one on one supervised by an adult. The venue is small so numbers are strictly limited. \nThis is our first time running the event\, if it’s successful we could have more sessions so let us know. \nThe venue is in the Sunhill Market so there will be food and drinks you can purchase on site or you can bring your own drinks and snacks. \nEntry is free thanks to sponsorship by Bike Auckland but koha towards costs would be appreciated. \nWhat do I need to bring?\nA bike\nDrinks\, snacks (if needed)\nA sense of fun \n  \nRSVP required as numbers are strictly limited!
