DESCRIPTION:A delightful community event that’s all about enjoying the simple pleasures of cycling\, good company\, and inspiring short films.\nThe event will start with a leisurely bike ride through the Whau’s bike lanes and parks. \nThen gather at Browne Street to share some FREE hot drinks and watch a curated selection of short films celebrating the joy of cycling.\nThis is for riders of all levels\, whether you’re an experienced cyclist or someone who hasn’t been on a bike in a while\, this event is for you.\nIt’s a great way to meet new people\, discover biking in Tāmaki Makaurau\, and relax in a cozy setting. Everyone is welcome.\nThe participant who brings the most people will receive a $100 gift voucher for Browne Street Café. So\, invite your friends\, family\, and neighbours and make it a group ride.\nEvery participant will receive some FREE bike wheel lights.\nLet’s ride\, reel\, and relax together. See you there!\nThis event is funded by Auckland Transport and supported by Bike Auckland.

Skills we cover can include puncture repair\, tyre inflation\, safety checks\, riding confidence\, route planning\, cycle touring advice\, and general tips and tricks. This March 2023 we are hosting a series of eight events at Tumeke in Sandringham thanks to support by the Auckland Transport Community Bike Fund. \nCycle Babes is all about learning from your peers\, making new friends\, recognising each other’s skills and sharing knowledge in a community group setting. So you can gain confidence in your abilities\, learning by your own hand through the support of the group. DESCRIPTION:Location: Room 109 – B15\, Auckland University general library basement\, Princes Street\, Auckland CBD \nWe are going to watch Together We Cycle\, which is a very cool documentary about the revival of the Dutch cycling culture! \nFoyer nibbles in the foyer from 17:45-ish. Maybe earlier if we are onto it 😉 \nThe film Together We Cycle investigates the critical events that has led to the revival of the Dutch cycling culture. For most people\, cycling in the Netherlands\, seems a natural phenomenon. However\, until the 1970s the development of mobility in the Netherlands followed trends across the globe. The bicycle had had its day\, and the future belonged to the car. The only thing that had to be done was to adapt cities to the influx of cars. \nThen Dutch society took a different turn. Against all odds people kept on cycling. The question why this happened in the Netherlands\, has not an easy answer. There are many factors\, events and circumstances that worked together\, both socially and policy-wise. In Together we cycle\, key players tell the story of the bumpy road which led to the current state. Where cycling is an obvious choice for most citizens. \nWe will also be generally loitering around afterward and hanging out\, with food provided (probably pizza). Gluten free\, vegan options will be available. \nVenue is wheelchair accessible.
