SUMMARY:Light the Night 2025 - #1
DESCRIPTION:Daylight saving is over. Time to dig out your bike lights and make sure you are seen.Dress up your bike and yourself and come for a ride along the shared path from Mission Bay to St Heliers and back.Meet 6.30pm at the clock tower. To make it a bit longer\, we will start by riding towards the Tamaki Yacht Club and turning around in the car park there.Afterwards we can either have a bite in Mission Bay or head into town.We want it to be a bike party\, showing people that you don’t have to take your car if you’re going out on a Saturday evening. It’s also a good chance to see what people are using to make themselves more visible at night and talk to others about their lighting.\nThe essentials are:\nYou need a bike and the attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself. Lights are essential. Everything else is optional.\nOptional stuff:\nA Bluetooth speaker and your favourite tunesA bike lit up like a Christmas treeAn outrageous costume\nHow it works:\nWe meet up at the start location and get organised and wait for any stragglers.Hop on our bikes and follow the leader towards town\, turn around at the Tamaki Yacht Club then head to St Heliers and ride back to the start. From there\, those with kids can head home and the rest of us do what we feel like.\n \nFAQ\nWhat does it cost? Zip\, zilch\, nada\, nothing.How long will it take? We will be riding slowly but the aim is to be back at the start by 8.00 pm at the latest.Can I leave any time? Yes\, head home whenever you feel like it.Is anything happening after? Nothing is organised\, but you can meet up with others going your way and carry on the party all the way home.Can I bring friends? Of course\, everyone is welcome.Can I bring my E-bike? Of course E-bikes are welcome.What’s the minimum age? There’s no minimum age but kids should be able confidently ride a bike the full distance. You can carry younger ones on a bike seat. You are responsible for your children\, this is not a drop and leave event.Will it be safe? Experienced riders will be at the front and back. The entire trail is off road and on sealed paths. Only two driveways to cross. There will be a small first aid kit available and also someone who can do basic bike repairs.Who is organising this and who is paying for it? The event is organised by a group of volunteers from Bike Eastern Suburbs\, and Bike East Auckland.What if it rains? If we’re going to cancel\, we will post on the Event page and Bike Eastern Suburbs Facebook page at around 4pm on the day.\nRules:\nWe try and keep rules to a minimum.1. Give way to all other path users.2. No alcohol – we want it kid friendly.3. Keep left and please don’t overtake the lead rider.4. There are a couple of driveways to cross in Mission Bay. You are responsible for looking out for cars crossing.5. Have fun\nNote: This is free\, volunteer run by the community. We accept no liability for anything outside our control. You are responsible for your own safety of your bike and of those around you. All we are doing is providing a start point\, a time and a destination. By turning up you accept these conditions. DESCRIPTION:Leave your car brain at home and Jump(er) on a Bike to help us celebrate cycling\, knitting\, and the newly completed joined-up\, continuous cycleway now open on Te Hā Noa – Victoria Street.\nThe New Zealand Fashion Museum\, Bike Auckland and Auckland Council invite you to don your warmest\, oldest\, boldest\, holiest\, most fabulous jumper (or cardigan) and jump on your bike for a jumper-themed bike parade down Te Hā Noa. \n\n5.30pm – Arrive on your bike via Te Hā Noa – Victoria Street West bike path.\nAssemble at the bike racks by Te Waihorotiu Station on the corner of Victoria Street West and Federal Street for registration.\n6pm – Parade/ride down Te Hā Noa past the judges at Elliott Street and regroup at the seating area between Elliott and Queen Street for final judging\n7pm – Park up at the free Bike Auckland Valet Parking in Darby Street and stay on for a hot drink and prizegiving in The Strand Arcade.\n\nThe best-dressed riders will win prizes\, so get creative and ride with pride! \nThe parade kicks off at 6pm – don’t miss it! All ages welcome. \nStay and enjoy the Midtown Street Party in The Strand Arcade and visit the KNIT exhibition\, join a workshop and peruse the Makers Market. Enjoy the music and something to eat in the Strand Arcade\, Elliott Stables or from one of the many food options in Midtown. \nThe two-way cycleway is physically separated from traffic\, offering a protected route that’s safer and more accessible for riders of all levels coming from across the East or West. Or\, bring your bike by train from the South\, or over the bridge on the bus from the North. \nRain or shine – see you there. \nProudly supported by Auckland Council and the city centre targeted rate. \n \nDetails\nWhat: A parade of fabulous jumpers (cardigans\, pullovers\, et al)\, their stylists\, and their bikes. Be one of the first to ride down the newly completed cycleway at Te Hā Noa – Victoria Street.\nWhen: Thursday 21 August 2025. Registration 5:30pm. DESCRIPTION:Ride bikes! Dress up loudly! Cruise in a friendly bike gang with retro tunes for the whole family along the Te Auaunga shared path from Mt Albert to Waterview.\n \nOnce at the Envirohub (Methodist Church grounds) there will be a dance\, and opportunity to have a picnic on the grass or partake in food from the vendors. \n \n\nWhile the ride will follow mostly shared bike paths\, there will be short sections of road and everyone is ultimately in charge of their own safety and safety of their own children.\n\n \n\nWhen: Friday 26th\, 4.30pm (ride till 5.30\, event runs till approx 8pm)\nWhere: Start at Young George Cafe 86A Hendon Ave Owairaka\, Ride the bike path with pumping tines on Josca’s bike trailer\, finish with Disco and food trucks at the Waterview Envirohub\, 1547 Great North Road\n \n \n
