SUMMARY:Bike Hub Mount Roskill Blind Zone Workshop with Share The Road
DESCRIPTION:Get your hands behind a big rig to spot blindzones in this workshop to build rider confidence in sharing the road with trucks\, buses and large vehicles. \nOnce you have done this workshop you will remember:\nwhere to place yourself and your bike (or vehicle) so a truck driver can see you and that it is better to overtake a truck on the right \nyou will know: \n\nthat trucks may move straight forward from a stop before turning\, to clear a corner.\nthat heavy vehicles’ bodies will swing wide of their wheel tracks\nthat heavy vehicles’ rear axles may turn up to 2m ‘tighter’ than front axles\n\n“It’s a total eye opener! Unless you have sat in the driver’s seat of a large truck you have no idea just how little you can see from up there. All people who ride on the road should do a Share the Road Blindzone Workshop.” — Andy McClune Takapuna Grammar School Cycling Club President \nContact Kelvin (kelvinsharetheroad@gmail.com)

SUMMARY:Transporting us to a cooler future
DESCRIPTION:Register for this event through the Auckland Climate Festival website. \nIt is 2050 and Auckland’s population is around 2.5 million people. A rapid and complete transformation of the transport and land-use planning system means the way people\, goods and services move around Auckland today is very different from how it was done 27 years ago. \nWe do not need to use our cars as much because there are alternative ways to get around. These are easy and affordable\, so we walk\, cycle and take public transport more. \nWhen we do need to use a vehicle\, they are cleaner and more fuel efficient than what we had in 2023 and they are powered by renewable electricity. \nWe travel together with other people more often to reduce the number of individual vehicle trips taken. \nSome trips are shorter than they were 27 years ago\, and there are now more options for people to work online. \nWe have safer streets that promote independent travel for all ages and abilities and there are better health outcomes through increased levels of physical activity\, improved air quality  and reduced noise pollution. \nAt this Auckland Conversations we will explore the cooler transport future for Auckland: Why we have ended up with the transport system of today\, what can be done to enable a cooler transport system for the future\, and importantly how to make the changes needed to get us there. \nOur Speakers: \nTiffany Robinson Senior Transport Planner\, ARUP New Zealand. \nTim Adriaansen Senior Transport Advisor\, Auckland Council. \nFrith Walker Head of Placemaking\, Eke Panuku. \nDr Timothy Welch Co-Director\, Future Cities Research Hub. \nDean Kimpton Chief Executive\, Auckland Transport. \nArriving by bike? Roll right up to the gate for free VIP parking.\nEnjoy free secure bike parking\, so that you can enjoy the event worry-free. Thank you for easing congestion\, reducing emissions and freeing up space in our city! Bike Auckland will be there to help register your bike to 529 Garage\, an anti-theft and bike recovery database. \nDoors open 5pm
