DESCRIPTION:Register for this event through the Auckland Climate Festival website. \nIt is 2050 and Auckland’s population is around 2.5 million people. A rapid and complete transformation of the transport and land-use planning system means the way people\, goods and services move around Auckland today is very different from how it was done 27 years ago. \nWe do not need to use our cars as much because there are alternative ways to get around. These are easy and affordable\, so we walk\, cycle and take public transport more. \nWhen we do need to use a vehicle\, they are cleaner and more fuel efficient than what we had in 2023 and they are powered by renewable electricity. \nWe travel together with other people more often to reduce the number of individual vehicle trips taken. \nSome trips are shorter than they were 27 years ago\, and there are now more options for people to work online. \nWe have safer streets that promote independent travel for all ages and abilities and there are better health outcomes through increased levels of physical activity\, improved air quality  and reduced noise pollution. \nAt this Auckland Conversations we will explore the cooler transport future for Auckland: Why we have ended up with the transport system of today\, what can be done to enable a cooler transport system for the future\, and importantly how to make the changes needed to get us there. \nOur Speakers: \nTiffany Robinson Senior Transport Planner\, ARUP New Zealand. \nTim Adriaansen Senior Transport Advisor\, Auckland Council. \nFrith Walker Head of Placemaking\, Eke Panuku. \nDr Timothy Welch Co-Director\, Future Cities Research Hub. \nDean Kimpton Chief Executive\, Auckland Transport. \nArriving by bike? DESCRIPTION:Learn to ride a tandem bike with people who are blind or have low vision. \nTandem pilots bring the joy of cycling to people who are blind or have low vision\, who may otherwise be excluded from cycling. Tandems benefit people with other disabilities too. For people who can’t cycle alone\, a tandem is a great solution. \nWhat is tandem piloting for people who are blind or have low vision?\nThe vision impaired rider or ‘stoker’ sits at the back of the tandem and provides muscle power. The pilot steers the tandem and rides in close communication with the stoker. \nAbout the session\nCome along to Silo Park where we’ll be using the safe space of the basketball courts for your 30-minute lesson on how to pilot a tandem. After your lesson\, you will have the opportunity for free practice on the tandem with the experienced stokers who are available to help. \nYou’ll also have the chance to meet a high performance tandem pairing who represent Aotearoa internationally at Para cycling competitions. \nBikes will be provided. Bring your helmet if you have one\, or use one of our spares. \nWhat can you do with your new tandem piloting skills?\nOnce trained\, you will be able to use your skills as a pilot rider with people in your own life\, or take up volunteer opportunities such as providing tandem piloting for vision impaired riders on group rides around our region\, recreationally or competitively in the Para sport space. \nHelp spread the word about this event\nUse this Learn to Pilot a Tandem event poster to share this event with your network.

All ages welcome\, up to 30 participants.\nThe opportunity to connect with new faces in your local area. \nFree pizza!\n\nThis event is free\, but registration is essential. \n*Climate Club delivers these workshops for free\, thanks to funding from Auckland Council. To reach lots of people across Auckland with this funding\, they reserve the right to cancel if there are fewer than 10 signups\, 1 week out from the workshop date. \nAbout our workshops\nThese workshops are based on the Climate Fresk model\, which has over 1.7 million participants and 80\,000 facilitators worldwide. Climate Club are bringing these award-winning workshops to New Zealand businesses\, councils and community groups. \nThese engaging workshops help participants understand the ‘big picture’ of climate science\, and translate it into impactful actions that are relevant to their local contexts. All data is based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports agreed upon by 195 countries.

We’ll be back to you soon with a new date. \n— \nJoin Bike Auckland in Manukau to learn about bike trains to school from Dominic Ross\, a passionate community activator in Puketāpapa/ Mt Roskill\, who has established successful bike trains for seven local schools in the Mt Roskill/Mt Albert area! Over the past year\, Dom has contributed in revitalizing the Mt Roskill bike community through the bike trains\, in addition to organising regular community bike events. \nA bike train is a group of students and adults who bicycle to school together\, making stops along a previously designated route to pick up other children en route to school. It’s a really fun way to start off the morning\, and a great way to get kids and parents on bikes! \nThis will be a facilitated workshop so that we can get some real ideas and inspiration on paper! A three hour gathering\, there will be time to meet your neighbours and strengthen your own connections\, while we discover ways to make others throughout the community and build capacity for your\nBike Burb! \nCome along to this inspiring talk to discover valuable insights and tips for fostering community in your own bike burb!
