DESCRIPTION:Bike Kaipatiki is excited to announce a new partnership with Wairau Zero Waste Hub! We’ll be hosting regular bike repair days to rescue bikes from the waste stream and get them back into the community. \nThese bikes will then be donated to our community partners who help people in need. \nJoin us on the 3rd Saturday of every month (except December and January) from 9am to 1pm! \nWhile public servicing isn’t available on these days\, we encourage everyone to come down and see what we’re doing. We also welcome volunteers of all skill levels to lend a hand! It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience fixing bikes. \nNo pressure to stay the whole time\, and you don’t need to attend every month. \nFeel free to pop in for a bit or the whole session\, and come whenever you’re available. \nHave questions? \nPlease reach out to us and we’ll be happy to chat! \nLet’s work together to reduce waste and get more people on bikes!

SUMMARY:Help us decorate K' Road's bike parking for Pride Month - Yarn for Pride
DESCRIPTION:Every year we decorate the bike parking along Karangahape Road in celebration of our LGBTQI+ community\, the queer history of K Rd\, and the growing cycle network. Will you help us put some decorations up? \nWe’ll be meeting at Zeki’s (K’ Road) at 10am on Saturday January 31st for a chat and a beverage before continuing on to put up the decorations. You’re welcome to bring crochet\, knitting\, or other crafts to work on for while we are there. \nOnce we’re hydrated (and probably caffeinated)\, we will begin to decorate the bike parking along Karangahape Road in celebration of Pride Month. This is a legal activity; we have an event permit. The decorations are pre-made crocheted and knitted scarves. We will sew them on to the bike parking. This is known as yarnbombing. \nBeginners are welcome – we will teach you. There will be scissors\, yarn\, and yarn needles available for you and your friends to use. \nPlease wear sunblock\, bring water\, and stay hydrated. All bodies and all bikes are welcome. \nFrom 10.00am\, join us at Bike Hub Queen’s Wharf. The hub will be open for bike checks and second hand bike sales. \nOur beginner-friendly group ride will begin with a casual meander up Queen Street. We will be riding on a mixture of shared pathways\, quiet streets\, and protected cycleways\, including the new Great North Road cycleway and a half-way stop at Grey Lynn Park pump track. You can see the route here. \nWe will be cycling at a social\, easy pace. The 10km route includes some hilly sections. We will have rest stops at the top of the hills\, making sure everyone is ready to go before we set off again. \nOnce we arrive at the beach we’ll park up with the free secure bike valet parking so we can enjoy our beach time worry-free. You are welcome to split off and do your own thing once we arrive. DESCRIPTION:Join Zara (pronouns: they/them) at Bike Hub Queen’s Wharf for the third and final session in our series of three sessions on cycle maintenance 101 for WTQ participants. \nThese practical\, hands-on workshops are suitable for beginners and best suited to people aged 16 and above. You’ll be learning how to look after your bike alongside other women\, trans\, and queer folks\, with skilled mechanics also from these communities\, in a friendly environment. These workshops aim to build your confidence to discover more bike repair skills at Bike Hubs all over Tāmaki Makaurau. You are welcome to stay at the end to continue chatting and connecting with other attendees. \nSession two: Shifter Issues Bring ease to your cycle trips. \nThis third session in our series is a practical\, hands-on workshop suitable for those with some bike tinkering experience. \nAt this Shifter Issues 101 workshop\, our WTQ mechanics will take you step by step through: \n\nsafety checking your bike\ntroubleshooting gear shifting problems\ntuning front and rear derailleurs\n\n  \nBring your own bike to practice on if you can.
