SUMMARY:POSTPONED - Workshop - Building Community Through Bike Trains
DESCRIPTION:Due to illness\, this event has been postponed until some date in the future. Many apologies! We’ll be back to you soon with a new date. \n— \nJoin Bike Auckland in Manukau to learn about bike trains to school from Dominic Ross\, a passionate community activator in Puketāpapa/ Mt Roskill\, who has established successful bike trains for seven local schools in the Mt Roskill/Mt Albert area! Over the past year\, Dom has contributed in revitalizing the Mt Roskill bike community through the bike trains\, in addition to organising regular community bike events. \nA bike train is a group of students and adults who bicycle to school together\, making stops along a previously designated route to pick up other children en route to school. It’s a really fun way to start off the morning\, and a great way to get kids and parents on bikes! \nThis will be a facilitated workshop so that we can get some real ideas and inspiration on paper! A three hour gathering\, there will be time to meet your neighbours and strengthen your own connections\, while we discover ways to make others throughout the community and build capacity for your\nBike Burb! \nCome along to this inspiring talk to discover valuable insights and tips for fostering community in your own bike burb!

SUMMARY:Understanding Power and Influence - A Bike Auckland Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Bike Auckland is excited to bring you an event to help strengthen your tools for effective bike advocacy in your community\, with expert facilitator and policy advocate\, Erin Thomas. (Note: Erin is facilitating two workshops covering the same subject territory\, one on the North Shore\, one in East Auckland.) \nThis event is free\, but please register to attend. \nBuilding winning advocacy campaigns requires us to understand power and how to shift it. In this workshop\, participants are invited to learn about power and influence through an interactive role play scenario focused on bike infrastructure. Participants will leave with a framework they can use to develop their own savvy advocacy strategies. \nA three-hour gathering\, there will be time to meet your neighbours and strengthen your own connections\, while we learn practical applications for influencing decision makers about all things cycling. \nErin Thomas is a Director and Change Facilitator at ICAAD (International Center for Advocates Against Discrimination). A skilled facilitator and researcher\, Erin has worked on challenging human rights issues in the Pacific including gender-based violence and climate justice. Erin is an organiser at heart and thrives on bringing people together to envision more just and equitable futures and confront the status quo. In addition to her work with activists in the Pacific\, her work has included Te Tiriti o Waitangi education with Pākehā and new immigrants and facilitating co-design workshops with communities passionate about active modes of transport.

SUMMARY:Light the Night 2025 - #1
DESCRIPTION:Daylight saving is over. Time to dig out your bike lights and make sure you are seen.Dress up your bike and yourself and come for a ride along the shared path from Mission Bay to St Heliers and back.Meet 6.30pm at the clock tower. To make it a bit longer\, we will start by riding towards the Tamaki Yacht Club and turning around in the car park there.Afterwards we can either have a bite in Mission Bay or head into town.We want it to be a bike party\, showing people that you don’t have to take your car if you’re going out on a Saturday evening. It’s also a good chance to see what people are using to make themselves more visible at night and talk to others about their lighting.\nThe essentials are:\nYou need a bike and the attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself. Lights are essential. Everything else is optional.\nOptional stuff:\nA Bluetooth speaker and your favourite tunesA bike lit up like a Christmas treeAn outrageous costume\nHow it works:\nWe meet up at the start location and get organised and wait for any stragglers.Hop on our bikes and follow the leader towards town\, turn around at the Tamaki Yacht Club then head to St Heliers and ride back to the start. From there\, those with kids can head home and the rest of us do what we feel like.\n \nFAQ\nWhat does it cost? Zip\, zilch\, nada\, nothing. How long will it take? We will be riding slowly but the aim is to be back at the start by 8.00 pm at the latest. Can I leave any time? Yes\, head home whenever you feel like it.Is anything happening after? Nothing is organised\, but you can meet up with others going your way and carry on the party all the way home. Can I bring friends? Of course\, everyone is welcome. Can I bring my E-bike? Of course E-bikes are welcome. What’s the minimum age? There’s no minimum age but kids should be able confidently ride a bike the full distance. You can carry younger ones on a bike seat. You are responsible for your children\, this is not a drop and leave event. Will it be safe? Experienced riders will be at the front and back. The entire trail is off road and on sealed paths. Only two driveways to cross. There will be a small first aid kit available and also someone who can do basic bike repairs.Who is organising this and who is paying for it? The event is organised by a group of volunteers from Bike Eastern Suburbs\, and Bike East Auckland. What if it rains? If we’re going to cancel\, we will post on the Event page and Bike Eastern Suburbs Facebook page at around 4pm on the day.\nRules:\nWe try and keep rules to a minimum.1. SUMMARY:How to Get Your School into Bike Trains: A Bike Auckland Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:What’s all the buzz about bike trains\, the global cycling craze taking communities by storm? Come learn about bike trains that are already happening throughout Tāmaki Makaurau from two established organisers – Emma McInnes\, coordinator of the Waterview Primary School bike train and Dominic Ross\, who has established successful bike trains for seven local schools. We’ll workshop some ideas to get the skills and the knowledge you need to get bike trains into your school! \nEmma McInnes is the coordinator of the Waterview Primary School Bike Train. She has a background in Urban Design and climate change advocacy\, and is a local Waterview Bike māmā. \nDominic Ross is a passionate community activator in Puketāpapa/ Mt Roskill\, having established successful bike trains for seven local schools. In 2024\, Dom contributed to revitalizing the Mt Roskill bike community through the bike train initiative\, in addition to organising regular community bike events. \nThis event is part of the Albert-Eden & Puketāpapa Eco Festival!
