SUMMARY:TryaCycle event series - May 21
DESCRIPTION:FREE EVENT | NO REGISTRATION NEEDED\n\nHave you ever considered cycling\, but never had the opportunity to give it a go due to a disability? If that’s you\, why not come down to the Silo Park Waterfront and try a variety of different cycles from recumbent cycles\, handcycles\, assist power-trikes to wheelchair bikes\, trailer options & more.\n\nThe TryaCycle Event will be held on Sunday 21 May from 11am till 4pm. There will be information on hand around grants to assist you in funding equipment. And/or take to the cycleways with cycles from the equipment loan that has been facilitated by Disability Sport Auckland and the Auckland Whānau Special Needs Support Group. We will have it all here onsite down at Silo Park Waterfront\, Jellicoe Harbour\, 34 Bridgham Street\, Auckland.\n\nNo registration required\, but it’s recommended to book a slot to try a cycle here https://grabyourwheels.nz/events/. Some of the cycles only get brought along if people have booked!\n\nA volunteer support person will be available to ride alongside you.\n\nIt’s smack bang in the heart of Auckland\, next to some wicked protected cycleways and shared paths. So\, even if you already own a hand-cycle\, recumbent\, bike trailer or trike come on down and join in the fun for our Open Day event. Bring your inclusive cycle and we’ll give you a complimentary hot drink voucher. We want to show Tāmaki Makaurau what inclusive cycling is all about.\n\nThere is plenty of parking around Silo Park (including mobility parks) with public accessible toilets close to the playground. The main ferry terminal\, bus and train stations are all under a 30-minutes walk/wheel away.\n\nIf this sounds like you\, then come on down and hang out with the inclusive cycling community! We may even start up our own Inclusive Cycling Bike Burb!\n\nYou can book a session to try out a cycle which may suit you on the safe\, inner-city network. Keep an eye out on the Bike Auckland or Grab Your Wheels Facebook pages for details of the series\, and check out the Grab Your Wheels site for more information about what kinds of cycles and cycle attachments will be available.\n\nSupported by the Waka Kotahi innovation fund\, Hoe ki angitū

Already cycling\, commuting and/or want to meet like minded people? \nCome join Louise Tu’u\, a Samoan recreational cyclist and director of We Should Practice\, who knows how much fun it is to ride on a bike and wants to share her love and enthusiasm so that other ethnic women can ride push or e-bikes. \nWe have a line-up of amazing guest speakers\, who we will reveal closer to the time. They are all womxn of colour and understand the unique opportunities and challenges that we face when cycling. \nNote: We use the word womxn to avoid the suggestion of sexism perceived in the spelling sequences m-a-n and m-e-n\, and to be inclusive of trans women and nonbinary people.\nOtahuhu Recreational Sports Society is just off the beautiful shared walking and cycle path of Station Road\, so we encourage you to cycle on your bike. Enjoy this relaxed and organised gathering to meet and connect with other riders. Light refreshments will be available. There is limited car parking\, as there is a busy tournament for the club at the same time. \nIf you don’t cycle or don’t know how\, please come. We would love to meet\, connect and motivate you to find out where you can develop bike skills in your community and access/hire/buy a bike. \nIf you don’t have a bike and would like one\, please grab a ticket be in the draw to win one secondhand and serviced push bike for FREE\, which we will give away at our gathering. \nBonus: All participants for the draw must have a functioning bike helmet\, lock and lights on the day in order to win. Otherwise\, there will be a redraw. We want the winner to use their bike safely straight away! \nNB: If you are not a womxn of colour and want to support in allyship\, please consider donating a koha here: \nhttps://ko-fi.com/weshouldpractice

SUMMARY:Park(ing) Day
DESCRIPTION:Park(ing) day is typically the third Friday in September\, though activations tend to happen over the whole weekend too! \nWhat is Parking Day\, you ask? Across the globe\, in September every year\, parking spaces are repurposed. Car parks are converted into parks\, social spaces\, dining rooms\, art installations\, health clinics\, wedding venues\, free bike repair shops and even foosball table equipped lounges. Streets are reimagined as safer\, greener and more equitable spaces. Parking Day is an exciting way to engage with urbanism\, and to advocate for people-centric city design. \nYou can make your own parklet\, or wander the city centre to see if there are any that pop up there! See some epic photos from previous Parking day events in Tāmaki Makaurau here\, and read more about it here.

SUMMARY:Transporting us to a cooler future
DESCRIPTION:Register for this event through the Auckland Climate Festival website. \nIt is 2050 and Auckland’s population is around 2.5 million people. A rapid and complete transformation of the transport and land-use planning system means the way people\, goods and services move around Auckland today is very different from how it was done 27 years ago. \nWe do not need to use our cars as much because there are alternative ways to get around. These are easy and affordable\, so we walk\, cycle and take public transport more. \nWhen we do need to use a vehicle\, they are cleaner and more fuel efficient than what we had in 2023 and they are powered by renewable electricity. \nWe travel together with other people more often to reduce the number of individual vehicle trips taken. \nSome trips are shorter than they were 27 years ago\, and there are now more options for people to work online. \nWe have safer streets that promote independent travel for all ages and abilities and there are better health outcomes through increased levels of physical activity\, improved air quality  and reduced noise pollution. \nAt this Auckland Conversations we will explore the cooler transport future for Auckland: Why we have ended up with the transport system of today\, what can be done to enable a cooler transport system for the future\, and importantly how to make the changes needed to get us there. \nOur Speakers: \nTiffany Robinson Senior Transport Planner\, ARUP New Zealand. \nTim Adriaansen Senior Transport Advisor\, Auckland Council. \nFrith Walker Head of Placemaking\, Eke Panuku. \nDr Timothy Welch Co-Director\, Future Cities Research Hub. \nDean Kimpton Chief Executive\, Auckland Transport. \nArriving by bike? Roll right up to the gate for free VIP parking.\nEnjoy free secure bike parking\, so that you can enjoy the event worry-free. Thank you for easing congestion\, reducing emissions and freeing up space in our city! Bike Auckland will be there to help register your bike to 529 Garage\, an anti-theft and bike recovery database. \nDoors open 5pm
