SUMMARY:Celebrate 10 years of the Lightpath 8am Ride
DESCRIPTION:Join us to ride Te Ara I Whiti on its tenth anniversary.\nTe Ara I Whiti\, the Lightpath was a bold idea to repurpose a disused motorway off-ramp and  turn it into a path for people. Without the early spark and persuasive energy of Bike Auckland’s Max Robitzsch and Barb Cuthbert\, it might still be an unrealised concept. Now this glowing pink ribbon with incredible views is a joyful\, iconic part of our city\, and a cornerstone of the growing network which connects more Aucklanders to where they want to go. \nThe path opened on 3rd December 2015\, after being constructed in a remarkable 9 months from idea to opening. \nFast forward ten years\, and we want to mark this milestone with all of you! Please join us for a celebratory event on the morning of Wednesday 3 December. \nWe are looking for keen riders to help us mark the occasion\nIf you plan on coming along on your bike to ride the path with us for a photo opportunity\, please register your attendance as soon as possible. This allows us to send out any useful info close to the time. \nMeet outside the Electric Bike Team shop by the Canada St end of the path at 8am. We’ll set off soon after. The more the merrier\, so bring a friend and let’s make this big! \nThose on foot\, on scooters\, in wheelchairs\, etc. are all welcome. \nWe look forward to marking the moment with you.

SUMMARY:Help us decorate K' Road's bike parking for Pride Month - Yarn for Pride
DESCRIPTION:Every year we decorate the bike parking along Karangahape Road in celebration of our LGBTQI+ community\, the queer history of K Rd\, and the growing cycle network. Will you help us put some decorations up? \nWe’ll be meeting at Zeki’s (K’ Road) on Sunday January the 18th for a chat and a beverage before continuing on to put up the decorations. You’re welcome to bring crochet\, knitting\, or other crafts to work on for while we are there. \nOnce we’re hydrated (and probably caffeinated)\, we will begin to decorate the bike parking along Karangahape Road in celebration of Pride Month. This is a legal activity; we have an event permit. The decorations are pre-made crocheted and knitted scarves. We will sew them on to the bike parking. This is known as yarnbombing. \nBeginners are welcome – we will teach you. There will be scissors\, yarn\, and yarn needles available for you and your friends to use. \nPlease wear sunblock\, bring water\, and stay hydrated. If you have made some decorations for the bike parking please bring them. \nOf course\, please stay home if you are feeling unwell. \nIf you have made some decorations but are unable to put them up yourself\, you are welcome to\n– bring them to us at this coffee meetup\, or\n– send or drop them to the Electric Bike Team (29 East Street\, Auckland Central\, Auckland 1010)\, or\n– send or drop them off to the Auckland Pride Office (281 Karangahape Road\, Auckland Central\, Auckland 1010)\nAnd we will make sure they get put up. \n‘Yarn for Pride’ is an annual event run by Rainbow Riders Tāmaki Makaurau and is part of the 2026 Auckland Pride Festival. See the full festival programme at aucklandpride.org.nz. SUMMARY:Hunua Ranges Regional Park River Loop Safari Ride
DESCRIPTION:This ride is quite different from our usual city-based safari routes. Instead of bike paths\, neighbourhood streets\, and urban corners\, we’ll be riding through one of the closest true forest environments to Auckland. The Hunua Ranges offer deep valleys\, native bush\, open river flats\, and peaceful gravel roads with no vehicle traffic. You will not need a mountain bike; the route is mainly light gravel so you might not be comfortable on a racing bike. Don’t worry if you are not used to gravel riding\, we will be going slowly and carefully. The Hunua River Loop is a scenic gravel and bush-edge circuit following the Mangatāwhiri Stream through the heart of the Hunua Ranges. The loop includes flat valley riding\, shaded bush sections\, and gentle climbs with views back across the river. Total distance is approximately 10–12 km\, taking 90–120 minutes at a relaxed safari pace. \nRegistration is required – please review the full details and register on this link.

SUMMARY:Light the Night - Glow Ride
DESCRIPTION:Dress up your bike and yourself and come for a ride along the shared path from Mission Bay to St Heliers and back. \nMeet 6.30pm at the clock tower. To make it a bit longer\, we will start by riding towards the Tamaki Yacht Club and turning around in the car park there. \nAfterwards we can either have a bite in Mission Bay or head into town. \nWe want it to be a bike party\, showing people that you don’t have to take your car if you’re going out on a Saturday evening. It’s also a good chance to see what people are using to make themselves more visible at night and talk to others about their lighting. \n\nThe essentials are:\nYou need a bike and the attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself. Lights are essential. Everything else is optional.\n\nOptional stuff: \n\nA Bluetooth speaker and your favourite tunes\nA bike lit up like a Christmas tree\nAn outrageous costume\n\nHow it works: \n\nWe meet up at the start location and get organised and wait for any stragglers.\nHop on our bikes and follow the leader towards town\, turn around at the Tamaki Yacht Club then head to St Heliers and ride back to the start. From there\, those will kids can head home and the rest of us do what we feel like.\n\nFAQ \n\nWhat does it cost? Zip\, zilch\, nada\, nothing.\nHow long will it take? We will be riding slowly but the aim is to be back at the start by 8.00 pm at the latest.\nCan I leave any time? Yes\, head home whenever you feel like it.\nIs anything happening after? Nothing is organised\, but you can meet up with others going your way and carry on the party all the way home.\nCan I bring friends? Of course\, everyone is welcome.\nCan I bring my E-bike? Of course E-bikes are welcome.\nWhat’s the minimum age? There’s no minimum age but kids should be able confidently ride a bike the full distance. You can carry younger ones on a bike seat. You are responsible for your children\, this is not a drop and leave event.\nWill it be safe? Experienced riders will be at the front and back. The entire trail is off road and on sealed paths. Only two driveways to cross.\nThere will be a small first aid kit available and also someone who can do basic bike repairs.\nWho is organising this and who is paying for it? The event is organised by a group of volunteers from Bike Eastern Suburbs\, and Bike East Auckland.\nWhat if it rains? If we’re going to cancel\, we will post on the Event page and Bike Eastern Suburbs Facebook page at around 4pm on the day.\n\nRules: We try and keep rules to a minimum.\n1. Give way to all other path users.\n2. No alcohol – we want it kid friendly.\n3. Keep left and please don’t overtake the lead rider.\n4. There are a couple of driveways to cross in Mission Bay. You are responsible for looking out for cars crossing.\n5. Have fun \nNote: This is free\, volunteer run by the community. We accept no liability for anything outside our control. You are responsible for your own safety of your bike and of those around you. All we are doing is providing a start point\, a time and a destination. By turning up you accept these conditions. Thanks.

SUMMARY:New date: Te Auaunga (Oakley Creek) Family Safari Ride
DESCRIPTION:This will be a chilled 2.7km ride for families with small children or grandparents with grandchildren. No minimum rider age\, even balance bikes will be fine. \nOn the Moonlight Ride last year we had lots of toddlers hooning it on their balance bikes. Our destination will be the playground at Owairaka Park. We will have morning tea there\, bring your favourite snacks and drinks. We will stop on the way back at the Pump Track in Underwood Park. There is another playground in that park as well. \nWe’ll ride at a comfortable pace to suit all riders\, with regular regroup points. \nIf you haven’t been along this section of the Awa\, go here to see the background to its story.
