Bike Disco on the Tāmaki Shared Path

Saturday March 23 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Come for a family friendly ride from Pt England Reserve to the Dunkirk Playground while the sun sets listening to some funky disco sounds.

Never heard of a bike disco? Here’s everything you need to know.
Dress up yourself and your bike and come for a short ride grooving to some smooth tunes with fellow cyclists. We will stop and have a bit of a dance then head back to the start.

The essentials are: You need a bike ( or some sort of wheels) and the attitude that you are going to enjoy yourself. Lights are recommended, Everything else is optional.

Optional stuff:

  1. A Bluetooth speaker
  2. A mobile phone with Spotify Premium
  3. A sparkly costume
  4. A sparkly bike

How it works:
We meet up at the start location and get organised.
For people with Bluetooth speakers, select the event playlist on Spotify and at a signal, everyone presses play at the same time.
Hop on our bikes and follow the leader to the destination where we will have a little dance party and then we ride back to the start.

FAQ
What does it cost? Zip, zilch, nada, nothing.

How long will it take? The actual ride is only about 15 minutes, but we will have music before we set off and we may stop along the way. The aim is to be back at the start by 9.00pm.

Can I leave any time? Yes, head home whenever you feel like it.

Is anything happening after? Nothing is organised, but you can meet up with others going your way and carry on the party all the way home.

Can I bring friends? Of course, everyone is welcome.

Can I bring my E-bike? Of course E-bikes are welcome.

How do I get there? You can ride all the way from your home or catch a train to the Glen Innes train station. There is also car parking at the Point England Reserve if your need to transport your bike.

What’s the minimum age? There’s no minimum age but kids should be able confidently ride a bike. You can carry younger ones on a bike seat. You are responsible for your children, this is not a drop and leave event.

Will it be safe? Experienced riders will be at the front and back. The entire trail is off road and on sealed paths.

Will there be secure bike parking? No. We don’t expect any security problems, but if you’re worried about your bike, bring a lock or keep it nearby when you’re having a dance. There will be a small first aid kit available and also someone who can do basic bike repairs.

What if I don’t have a speaker or Spotify Premium? Don’t worry, just come along and enjoy the music.

Who is organising this and who is paying for it? The event is organised by a group of volunteers from Bike Eastern Suburbs, Bike East Auckland and Bike Auckland. The only expense is the free time spent organising it.

Will I need lights on my bike? Lights are recommended if you want to stay at the playground until after dark. There will also be a full moon to help guide you back.

What if it rains? If we’re going to cancel, we will post on the Event page and Bike Eastern Suburbs Facebook page at around 4pm on the day.

Rules: We try and keep rules to a minimum.
1. Give way to all other path users.
2. No alcohol – we want it kid friendly.
3. Keep left and please don’t overtake the lead rider.
4. Take all rubbish home with you.
5. Please respect the neighbours backing onto the path and turn your music down on that section
6. Have fun
