It has been another busy and productive year for Cycle Action. Here are some of the highlights that were reported on at the AGM in September:
- The Cycle Action website has been upgraded. We also contribute to a great new grass roots cycling culture site– Cycling in Auckland
- Some superb new cycleways have been opened, Tamaki Drive is improved and there are new projects in the pipeline for the coming year.
- We have had great liason with our partners in City Councils, ARC, ARTA and NZTA. These relationships are very rewarding in helping us add to and share our cycling knowledge.
- Cycle Action secretary Barbara Insull has been voted on to the Bike NZ board for a 4 year term, and our Membership Secretary, Pippa Coom was the second highest polling candidate for the Waitemata Local Board for the new Auckland Council. Her City Vision team largely comprises the Board, so we have great pro-cycling and public transport allies in the CBD!
- Most of our hard working Committee stood again at our AGM on 30 September. Graeme Knowles and Bevan Woodward have retired, so this is another chance for us to thank them for their terrific contribution to Cycle Action over many years. We welcome Jena Nequidat and Kelvin Aris onto the Committee.
- The Cycotecture presentation followed the AGM with an audience of over 170. Guest speaker Ludo-Campbell Reid and a panel of experts talked about Urban design for a Super City.
- Easy Transport Auckland was launched in the lead up to the election with support from Cycle Action to promote public transport initiatives. Check out http://www.easytransportauckland.org.nz/ for details.
- We have helped with a number of unique events this year encouraging cycling culture. Cycle Style Auckland in July (video here) and the Big Bike Fix Up (video here) are good examples.

We are delighted our new Mayor and many new Council and Local Board members are committed to sustainable transport. Cycle Action aims to work closely with these politicians, as well as the officers who hold key responsibilities in the new Council structure and Transport CCO.
Cycle Action is a voluntary group that relies on the talents of enthusiastic individuals. If you would like to contribute, we would love to hear from you.
