Community Information days for NZTA’s airport link plans

Airport motorway 2This Saturday the NZTA is holding the first of a series of public information days for information and feedback on their proposed new motorway link to Auckland Airport, SH20A (George Bolt Drive), and the intersection with Kirkbride Road.

Details of provision for cyclists on the new SH20A motorway (George Bolt Drive) and on Kirkbride Rd are still at the design stage, and we’ll bring you more on these once these plans are available. We believe it’ll be critical to ensure provision of direct access to Auckland Airport for both local and visiting cyclists, and we know that there are also local routes that depend upon cycle-friendly connections through the airport area.

Airport motorway 1NZTA’s Community Open Days seem likely to focus on the big-picture planning for the new motorway State Highway 20A/Kirkbride Road intersection, rather than detail of any cycling proposals. But they are still an invaluable chance to get information and give your input, as this motorway project is being accelerated by the Government and will happen fast, with construction starting next year. CAA will meet with NZTA soon to discuss these elements – but it always helps if we have the public also pushing for better cycle provision. So if you can make it, tell them what you like and hate.
