Come to the movies with the Spokes Ladies!

Bike Auckland

It’s the first Wednesday of the month, which means another fabulous evening ride with the Spokes Ladies – and daylight saving will make this one even brighter. Here’s the plan!

Wednesday 5th Oct 2016

6 pm Meet at the entrance to St Kevins Arcade, 191 -197 Karangahape Road.

6.10 pm Group ride to Dominion Rd, with a fun food and beverage stop along the way.

7.45 pm Arrive at the Capitol Cinema at 610 Dominion Road, Balmoral.

8 pm Movie time! In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the first MMP election, a special screening of the brilliant fly-on-the-wall political documentary ‘CAMPAIGN’ (Tickets are $20; more info here).

In 1996, Tony Sutorius got his hands on a new digital video camera, days before the start of an election campaign in Wellington Central. Made on the proverbial shoestring, this feature-length documentary chronicles five of those battling for the crown at the dawn of a new political age — the arrival of MMP. Richard Prebble joins a new party called ACT, the National candidate joins United New Zealand… and one of the five will be sacrificed by their own party. Sutorius worked through 55 hours of footage to forge the result, which won enthused and sellout audiences at the 1999 NZ Film Festival.

9.20 pm The film ends, and we can ride back to K Road as a group, or you can head off home when you feel like it.

As always, all bike types/ styles/ ages/ fitness levels and speeds are encouraged. We have a ‘give it a go’ inclusive policy, so whether you’re a newbie or hardcore it’s about getting women on bikes together.

Bring lights. Be stylish. Let’s ride!

PS Just a little note to say that this ride is in part celebrating the birthday of one of the stars who got Auckland’s Frocks on Bikes going: the great Pippa Coom. So those who’d like to come and meet Pippa at the bar for a birthday bubbles at the Capitol before the movie, come and join in!!!
