Changes to bridge diversion on Northwestern Cycleway

Cycleway West of CreekGuest post by Jala Shekho, NZTA

Kia ora,

Its Jala here with this quickie about progress on the Lincoln Road project and more importantly the cycleway. The team is ready to move onto the next stage of construction which includes a retaining wall, progressing the new cycleway, and demolition of the existing westbound lanes.

What all this activity means for you is that the team is looking at slightly changing the cycleway layout. We’re working with Barbara and CAA to figure out the best ways to keep cyclists safe while getting on with construction and demolition.

In a couple of week’s time you will notice some minor changes to the temporary cycleway. In mid-August the western end of the cycleway will include a diversion to take you around a retaining wall during its construction.

In November the cycleway will be moved north together with the temporary traffic lanes so that the existing westbound bridge can be demolished. We ask that you please continue to share the area with care.

If you come across any issues, or see any ways we could make things safer, please feel free to contact me at jala.shekho@nzta.govt.nz

Have a great weekend,

Jala

[At right: the future cycleway directly along the motorway towards Lincoln Road Interchange. Currently still without any landscaping.]
