Here’s a chance to show that cyclists are staunch and true to the cause – even at 5.30am!

Meet at the bottom of Alten Rd on Thursday 15 November for the dawn blessing and sod turning to celebrate the start of work to bring the Northwestern Cycleway, our busiest commuter cycle route, through Grafton Gully into town.

We’d love to see a big turnout – a light breakfast will be provided by the Transport Agency, and it would be great for the project partners to see how keen cyclists are on this initiative and more to come (such as the Beach Road cycleway – connecting on to Britomart and Quay Street).

After all, this is the first time the Agency, Auckland Council and Auckland Transport have joined forces to deliver a walking and cycling project under the Supercity. This is what the new Council system is all about – it’s why Auckland is leading the game nationally on cycling. We have heaps more projects in store to offer them to collaborate on with us, once this one gets underway.

Note the RSVP to Jala at NZTA, she’s in charge of catering, and is a gem. She’s also currently sourcing some bike racks for the event.
