CAA Pedal into Summer: Enjoy Auckland by Bike

Join us for the CAA Pedal into Summer RidesRide Planet Earth Weekend – Beachlands & Maraeti Coast

Date: Sat 27 Nov 2010 – Beachlands-Maraeti Coast
Time: 10:00am for a pre-ride briefing. The ride will depart at 10:30am.  Ride will take aprox 45 minutes
Start: Jack Lachlan Drive Esplanade Reserve, Pine Harbour Marina, Beachlands
Finish: Maraetai Park, Maraetai Drive, Maraetai.
Return: by bus will be running from 11:30am – 1:30pm OR return by bike at your own leisure
Stops: 2 x drink stops with refreshments provided.  Additionally there are coffee shops at Pine Harbour Marina & Maraetai Beach. Feel free to bring your own picnic lunch.

Distance: Aprox 7 km one way.  Easy to Medium.  70% off road, 30% light quiet streets.  Suitable for children.

Ride description

Starting at Pine Harbour Marina, you’ll meander through the quiet streets of Beachlands, into the adjoining reserves leading to Te Puru Park, where you can enjoy cycling through the splendor of Omana Regional Park to Maraetai Park.  This is a wonderful opportunity to ride this recently completed trail, a new Beachland gem. There will be two stops for refreshments, and this is an easy 7 km ride one way.  A bus will be available to bring participants back to Pine Harbour from 11:30 am – 1:30pm.  Those wishing to return by bike are free to do so at their own pace (not part of the organised portion of the event).


Headin’ West – Explore the North West Cycleway.

Date: Sunday 28 November
Time: 10:15 briefing, ride starts 10:30 sharp.
Start: Nixon Park, Central Road, Kingsland.
Finish: Falls Park, Henderson Central.
Return: Either by the same route or by train from Henderson Station. See www.maxx.co.nz for train times
Length: 13.5km
Hills: Easy.
On Road Cycling: Only 1km on road. Light traffic on quiet streets.
Off Road Cycle Paths: 12.5km on off road cycle paths.
Starting at the beginning of the North Western Cycle way at Nixon Park, we will be riding on the recently completed section through to Western Springs. The ride then continues through Unitec and along the causeway to Te Atatu. We then ride on some quiet streets for about 1km and back on the trail past Henderson Creek and Tui Glen. The ride finishes up at Falls Park where there is a cafe and plenty of space to eat your lunch. Return is by the same route or alternately you can catch the train with your bike from Henderson back to Kingsland or Britomart.
