AT says: Have it your (Abbotts) Way!

Thumbs Up Sign ATGreat news – Auckland Transport has just informed us that they are moving back to the future again – and the design for Abbotts Way / Grand Drive will now include cycle lanes!

The key statement:

Auckland Transport has carefully reviewed the proposed project, and is proposing to provide a dedicated cycle lane on each side of Abbotts Way, as well as on the approach section of Grand Drive to the intersection.

We haven’t got a plan of the updated design yet, and the new cycle lanes will only be added in the intersection area itself (the rest of the road will have to wait for some future project). But the statement is pretty clear – this is great news for all people on bikes, for CAA, and of course for all those who took up our request to provide feedback echoing our concerns with their “retro design“.

Many thanks for AT on their willingness to adapt and improve their design. Do an intersection on the Auckland Cycle Network, do cycle facilities. It’s the way of the future indeed.

Plus, it was really nice to be able to say at tonight’s Special General Meeting: “Hi, I am Max, I am CAA’s infrastructure liaison, and I just got an email from AT that we are getting cycle lanes on Abbotts Way.” Because that kinda thing is kinda what I am about at CAA.

And now some bubbles – or whatever your celebrating beverage is – for everyone! Go, team! You rock!
